Job Description

Works independently with toddlers (2 - 4 years old) and families conducting bi-weekly visits involving reading activities and playing games with the aim of preparing the child for school.

***Bilingual Haitian/English Preferred***

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Provides safe and effective services

  • Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.

  • Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.

  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.

  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Prepares toddlers for school.

  • Establishes rapport and develops relationships with families relating to parents and other adults as peers or equal partners in providing help to the child.

  • Meets with assigned program families twice per week for 30 minutes to conduct lesson plans as directed in the given curriculum.

  • Implements and completes approved strategies.

  • Provides appropriate educational materials to program families.

  • Observes parents as they model teaching behaviors.

  • Maintains adequate documentation of services provided and clearly documented case notes to include family home visits in family folders adhering to family confidentiality.

  • Discusses client confidentiality rights responsibilities and grievance processes.

  • Audiotapes or videotapes home visits as directed.

  • Attends training sessions and meetings.

  • Completes periodic Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQs) with families and makes internal or external referrals for more intensive services as needed.

  • Completes Pre and Post CBT/PACT assessments each program year to measure improvement.

  • Enters accurate and timely data into the Healthy Beginnings Data System (HBDS) and the ParentChild Plus Management Information System (MIS) ensuring compliance with 41 data points measured on the CPPA report by the funder.

  • Submits referrals to the Early Learning Coalition (ELC) for childcare assistance.

  • Makes referrals for essential needs (i.e. furniture clothing bus passes etc.) as needed.

  • Responsible for outreach and building community relationships.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to handle a variety of circumstances in a home setting and to adapt responses to situations while maintaining procedural and regulatory integrity.

  • High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to youth care.

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to communicate in an articulate professional manner while maintaining necessary degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to build and sustain successful professional relationships.

  • Ability to work independently meet deadlines and multi-task while maintaining quality standards.

  • Knowledge of the community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with families and toddlers including experience working in an educational social services or family literacy setting required.

  • Possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record and pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • Bi-lingual English/Creole may be required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS EQUIPMENT USAGE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient agility and endurance to perform all job requirements (including stressful situations physically mentally and emotionally) encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees youth or families. Must have sufficient ability to see hear speak and mobility to monitor youth and participate in activities with youth. Specific requirements include but are not limited to: the ability to lift up to 35 pounds carry safely up to 35 pounds as well as the ability to reach overhead bend and squat with ease.Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive (physical interventions escorts etc.) to casual and leisurely in both indoor and outdoor settings. While performing the duties of this job the employee is subject to outside weather conditions and maybe required to visit homes with substandard living conditions and domestic pets.
