Digital Communications Officer

About The Role:

The British Council administers the Chevening and Marshall scholarship programmes funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office aimed at attracting future leaders to study in the UK.
We use insight knowledge and analysis of our diverse audiences behaviours to drive awareness and engagement with us. We lead the development of our brand and use our expertise to tell inspiring stories to enhance our global reputation build lifelong relationships engage our stakeholders and demonstrate our impact.

Role Purpose

Working to the Senior Communications Manager this role will lead on the development of targeted communications for the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Offices scholarship programmes.

Youll be:
Skilled at compelling content creation including self-shot videos social media posts and written website and newsletter copy. Youll be confident in using your phone to capture moments at events and create engaging Instagram reels stories and other platform-specific content.
Adept at social media with a basic understanding of current trends on Instagram LinkedIn Facebook and YouTube.
Experienced in creating strategic communications plans that have clear objectives measurable outcomes and the ability to assess success through analytics.
Confident in building relationships with stakeholders to gather information ask questions and edit content that resonates with international students and other audiences.
Enthusiastic about suggesting new ideas to achieve our goals.
A team player with a keen eye for detail.

Main accountabilities :

Sector Expertise
Develops and executes multi-channel communications plans accountable for implementing them and evaluating their success.
Create compelling content for all channels including social media email newsletters and the website.
Able to build positive relationships with international students studying in the UK global alumni internal staff and other stakeholders.
Where appropriate creates and commissions relevant high-quality photo and video content.
Ensures our brand and reputation are preserved and improved across all channels by following our brand guidelines and monitoring and responding appropriately to social media comments.
Utilise social media and website analytics to track performance and optimise reach and engagement.
Relationship & stakeholder management
Collaborate with the wider communications team to maintain a regular flow of relevant and engaging material.
Proactively develops relationships with colleagues to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
Provides advice support and challenge on communications and marketing to internal stakeholders with support from the Digital Communications Manager or Senior Communications Manager where necessary.

Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Degree or professional qualification in communications or business or demonstrable level of equivalent experience
Proven working experience in digital communications or content production/commissioning
Experience of strategic communications planning.
Experience of effective campaign evaluation.
Experience of engaging audiences across a variety of channels and platforms
Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
An ability to find and tell stories exceptional copywriting and editorial skills and experience creating compelling videos for a variety of channels and audiences.
Understanding of Canva.
Ability to successfully manage various simultaneous initiatives and project timelines.

Further Information
Pay Band 7

Salary: Starting from 30839 plus 3300 London Market Allowance for those based from the London area.

Contract Type Fixed Term until 31/8/2026

Location London or Cardiff

Closing date - 9th September at 23.59 UK time

Travel: The postholder must be willing to travel within the UK to attend team meetings to visit scholars and to support the delivery of in-person events.

The post can be based from London (Stratford) or Cardiff. Post holders will be required to work from a physical office location at least 3 days per week on average. Frequent attendance in London for internal team meetings and for client meetings and events may be required.

Please note that candidates must have the pre-existing legal right to work in the UK.
