Job Summary
This research assistant position will provide research-oriented support to the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit.
The RA will:
Coordinate the execution of projects assuring they are done in an efficient manner that they adhere to project protocols that they conform to applicable institutional and ethical policies and procedures and privacy legislation and that they are completed within the required timelines.
Actively support the management and facilitation of time-limited projects and programs to identify best practice-grounded strategies and activities for health professionals policy/decision makers and the public in research practice and policy.
In collaboration with the Research Coordinator conduct systematic reviews to identify and synthesize research on sports injuries.
Organizational Status
The research assistant will report to the Project Coordinator and to the Director of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit.
Work Performed
Identifies collects and analyzes relevant information and injury data relating to current projects.
Conducts systematic reviews including but not limited to: title and abstract screening full-text review quality assessment and data extraction.
Prepares documents summarizing research results including reports graphs tables and summaries.
Assist in preparation of manuscripts presentations and posters.
Provides input and recommendations to project team for development implementation analysis dissemination of findings and policy/practice implications.
Presents project updates to internal stakeholder groups external agencies organizations and other stakeholders as needed.
Assists with the dissemination of information and knowledge related to projects and key programs and initiatives under the identified priority areas through a variety of vehicles.
Performing other related duties as required including work on other BCIRPU projects.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
All work performed by the research assistant will be reviewed by the Project Coordinator. Inappropriate judgment or error on the part of the research assistant will result in wasted time and money. Inadequate workmanship will reflect poorly on the project staff and may impact the sustainability of the project.
Supervision Received
The research assistant will report primarily to the Project Coordinator. It is expected that the research assistant be able to work independently and be pro-active in identifying challenges to the progress of the project.
Supervision Given
The research assistant may support the coordination and supervision of staff or students assisting in large or complex projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to effectively use MS Word Excel PowerPoint and reference management software.
Ability to summarize synthesize and present research results effectively.
Ability to exercise independent judgement while adhering to protocols.
Effective organizational and time management skills.
Effective oral and written communication interpersonal and multitasking skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing for both academic and community audiences.
Ability to work both independently pro-actively and within a team environment.
Attentive to detail with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
Experience with project evaluation database management online literature searches conducting systematic reviews and web-based applications an asset.
