Job Description:
The Budget Analyst I position discusses budget requests and potential issues with agency staff; prepares and presents budget analysis and other information to the Appropriations Committee; prepares appropriation bills and amendments; researches the fiscal impact of legislation prepares fiscal notes and tracks bills with fiscal notes for follow-up; prepares special reports and answers requests made by Senators as assigned; consults with and responds to questions about the fiscal impact of legislation from legislative staff and external stakeholders; contributes to the budget summary report and other division publications as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: a Bachelors degree; two years of experience in a relevant government or research position. A relevant graduate degree may substitute for two years of experience; knowledge of the structure and operation of state government and the Legislature the legislative process and the appropriations process; knowledge of accounting procedures evaluation techniques and the state accounting system; excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with Senators legislative staff stakeholders and the public; excellent oral and written communication skills including concisely summarizing complex data; ability to work independently organize and manage work and maintain confidentiality; ability to produce quality work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and must have the ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications: include education in research methodology statistics accounting data processing economics public administration or budgeting.
Salary: $78160 - $87920 annually
Please note: Starting pay may be up to 12% above the minimum hire rate for a Budget Analyst II if the candidate has exceptional credentials.
