Director of Audit & Compliance

Location

Louisville KY This position allows for a hybrid work schedule.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Audit & Compliance to lead our audit tax program compliance and federal awards functions. This role ensures APH meets all state federal and programmatic reporting requirements while delivering accurate timely financial information to support leadership decision-making. The Director will oversee internal audits manage federal award compliance develop and supervise a team and collaborate cross-functionally to maintain operational and financial excellence.

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

What Youll Do (Key Responsibilities)

  • Develop and improve internal audit policies procedures and work standards by applying appropriate audit methodologies.
  • Conduct comprehensive audit examinations to assess internal controls key business risks and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure federally funded programs comply with federal accounting guidelines.
  • Provide leadership oversight and financial reporting to support APHs programs and federal awards.
  • Manage reporting and compliance with federal award requirements.
  • Supervise and develop staff responsible for audits federal awards and program accounting.
  • Coordinate with the accounting team and internal departments to deliver timely accurate audits and required financial statements to external auditors.
  • Assist with internal financial reporting for governmental awards and grants.
  • Support completion of monthly and year-end financial statements.
  • Prepare analyze and distribute financial reports for stakeholders including the CFO department managers Board of Trustees and Executive Leadership.
  • Work with all departments to ensure senior managers have the financial information needed to manage their operations.
  • Adjust audit methods and systems as needed to improve processes.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as directed.

Qualifications

What We Expect from You (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA preferred.
  • 7 years of accounting experience (nonprofit experience preferred).
  • 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage all aspects of a nonprofit accounting or finance department.

Preferred

  • Experience with Government Accounting Standards (GAS) Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience preparing financial reports statements and projections.
  • Excellent written verbal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and business issues to diverse stakeholders.

Note: A combination of education training and experience may be considered when competency in the role is demonstrated.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an office setting within a production and distribution facility.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and document handling.
  • Must be willing and able to work with detail.
  • Regular interaction with staff across departments.
