POSITION TITLE: Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Kindergarten FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt Full-Time REPORTS TO: Grade School Principal
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: - Bachelors or Masters degree in Education or related subject matter.
- A desire and willingness to teach intermediate age school children.
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated classroom management and facilitation skills.
- Strong parent communication skills.
- Ability to interact with students parents faculty and staff.
- Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions.
- Strong ability to work collegially with the division faculty and support team.
- Competency with school-related technology (Google Microsoft Zoom etc.)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Collaborate with Intermediate teachers on topics such as Lesson Plans Classroom Management Parent contact and student interactions.
- Lead instruction for a primary level classroom with an average of 12-18 students.
- Collaborating with other teachers to horizontally and vertically align curriculum.
- Work and collaborate with grade level team members to plan interdisciplinary projects and experiential learning.
- Employ effective classroom management techniques that are fair just age-appropriate and preserve the ego of the student.
- Facilitate homeroom activities (includes attendance team building exercises distribution/compiling of home folders etc.)
- Demonstrate effective use and understanding of 21st century methods for instruction including:
- inquiry-based learning
- problem-based learning
- student centered classroom environment
- authentic assessment
- Responsible for parent communication through regular maintenance of website frequent phone/email contact and parent/teacher conferences twice a year.
- Participate in the life of the school through service projects Mass/prayer service assemblies community garden admissions events Sion Alliance events mission related retreats and advancement events.
- Seek and take part in professional development to enhance classroom practice.
- Actively participate in weekly faculty development meetings and before school after school recess and lunch duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to effectively and efficiently work in a classroom environment.
- Ability to work at a desk and computer for a period of time.
- Ability to move about a multi level building.
