Job Description

Title: Junior School Program Manager

Reports To: Administrative Dean Junior School Glassell School of Art

Pay Type: Full-Time Regular Exempt 35 hrs. /week

Work Schedule: M-F available to work weekends as needed

Work Location: Glassell Junior School a non-smoking facility

Summary:

The Glassell School of Art builds imagination creativity and understanding of human expression through programs and classes for people of all ages and at all skill and experience levels. The School has been the teaching arm of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston for nearly 100 years. Now with new leadership the Glassell School is set to embark on a major effort toward growth in enrollment over the coming five years. Glassell is comprised of four distinct areas: Junior School Studio School the Core Residency program and grant-driven special projects. The Junior School offers a unique and comprehensive approach to learning whereby students ages 3-14 can explore the aesthetic and intellectual aspects of art while engaging in hands-on art making and creative experiences. This position will require the ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Administrative Dean to recruit train and supervise the schools office support staff and teachers aides.
  • Work with the Administrative Dean school committees and other MFAH departments to facilitate current programming as well as implement new programming.
  • Work with Glassell leadership in developing new partnerships with area public and private schools as well as community organizations and other groups.
  • Manage scheduling preparing contracts and invoicing for outside partnership programs.
  • Process all relevant work orders and interdepartmental requests (Audio/Visual Engineering and Facilities Security Visitor Count EMS Office Services).
  • Manage the schools supply inventory and order all necessary supplies for each semester; process purchase orders in D365; manage petty cash supply reimbursements.
  • Prepare for various school functions to include meetings scholarship competitions exhibition openings and end of semester activities.
  • Proofread school publications to include course schedules room charts flyers exhibition invitations postcard mailers etc. to ensure accuracy.
  • Judge artwork for scholarship events; maintain scholarship award lists.
  • Generate certificates auction donations award letters and evaluation forms for scholarship awardees.
  • Serve as back-up at the reception desk and in the classroom in the event of an absentee or late employee to include substituting if needed.
  • Handle other special projects including but not limited to supervising students at dismissal in the lunchroom and in the office as needed.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to resolve conflicts. Strong computer skills (spreadsheets database management word processing). Strong organizational skills. Must be able to handle multiple projects and priorities. Must be analytical and detail oriented. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed or required by the schools schedule. Must have and maintain a patient and nurturing demeanor with children.

Education and Experience:

Minimum education requirements include a preference for applicants with a high school diploma (or GED) or an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved. B.A. degree in a related field and 2-3 years administrative and managerial experience preferred.
