THE POSITION AND THE DEPARTMENT

The Alumni Engagement Specialist at Normandale Community College plays a crucial role in fostering meaningful connections between the college and its alumni community. This position involves developing and implementing internal and external communications strategies to foster current students interest in remaining involved at Normandale following graduation or transfer and to promote alumni involvement in and contributions to the colleges activities events and initiatives. Alumni engagement is a critical strategic component in helping the college improve diversity equity inclusion and belonging as practiced through non-academic volunteer activities that support college programs. Its also a pathway to growing the Foundations donor base increasing its impact on college initiatives that foster student success.

Key responsibilities include developing and managing an alumni program that uses targeted messaging to current students and alumni informing them of opportunities to get involved at Normandale and strengthening their connection to the college. This position collaborates with college departments student clubs the Foundation and external partners to publicize ways to get involved on campus and to implement alumni activities including events. The Alumni Engagement Specialist maintains a current database of alumni tracks their engagement and adjusts strategy for continuous improvement.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

  • Two years of experience in communicating with volunteers and engaging them in activities events and initiatives that support organizational goals or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A masters degree may substitute for 18 months of experience a bachelors degree may substitute for 12 months of experience and an associates degree for 6 months. The degree needs to be in a related field.

Other Knowledge Skills and Abilities that will be interviewed for include:

  • Strategic communication and marketing

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with others collaboratively

  • Uses creativity is resourceful and takes thoughtful risks

  • Self-starter and a problem solver

  • Experience in project management is thorough and has strong organizational skills

  • Ability to work in and support a culture of diversity and inclusion

Preferred:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in communications marketing community relations public relations development non-profit management business or related field.

  • Previous experience in alumni relations event planning volunteer management or community engagement preferably in the public and/or non-profit sectors.

  • Experience in higher education settings preferably community colleges.

  • Ability to think strategically and analytically especially in high-pressure situations.

  • High emotional intelligence and tolerance for ambiguity.

  • Proficiency in using social media channels and newsletter platforms such as Constant Contact to communicate with target audiences.

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft 365 Adobe Creative Suite data management tools and other relevant software.
