Position Summary:
Job Description:
Position: Western Colorado University is recruiting a full-time System Administrator Cloud Services. This expert-level position oversees the design implementation and support of the universitys Microsoft 365 environment and other cloud and hybrid services. The incumbent is the technical lead for cloud system architecture tenant management security frameworks and service optimization. Responsibilities include researching developing and deploying new services as well as supporting the ongoing migration from on-premises architecture to IaaS or SaaS solutions primarily within the Microsoft ecosystem. While the primary responsibility is the Microsoft cloud environment as a member of a small team the incumbent must be willing and able to work on a broad set of systems applications and technologies. The incumbent works in close coordination with other senior members of the IT staff to carry out departmental initiatives and goals.
This position may be performed on campus or remotely. Remote employees are required to travel to campus for two weeks for onboarding and at least once annually for team retreats. Standard working hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Mountain Time with some flexibility. Occasional after-hours and on-call work is expected. This position reports to the Supervising System Administrator.
Specific Responsibilities:
Administer and manage our Microsoft 365 SaaS application and cloud infrastructure writ large. Includes but is not limited to Azure Exchange Online OneDrive SharePoint Teams Entra ID and Power Automate Office etc.
Manage cloud-based servers including database servers.
Manage licensing and compute costs to maximize the value of our Microsoft infrastructure.
Manage the interactions of the Microsoft environment with other enterprise systems (SSO DNS IDM integrations)
Lead the design development implementation of new cloud solutions.
Ensure system reliability performance and security across all platforms.
Complete the migration of our remaining on premises infrastructure and applications to the cloud.
Provide technical leadership in area of expertise.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Ability to do basic scripting including PowerShell.
Possesses solid security fundamentals including firewalls encryption and data protection to safeguard M365 environments.
Strong understanding of networking such as TCP/IP DNS
Experience with operating systems including Linux and Windows.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in information technology information systems computer science engineering or related field.
Five years of general IT experience
Three years as a system or application administrator in a mid to large enterprise environment (500 end users 30 supported services) in progressively responsible positions.
Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing a Microsoft 365 environment including Azure infrastructure.
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
Advanced degree(s) in information technology information systems computer science engineering or related fields.
Current relevant Microsoft certifications
Experience working in higher education.
Compensation: $80000 to $85000 annually with benefits. This position is FLSA exempt. Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan dental insurance retirement plan life insurance and other insurance options. After one year of employment Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
