DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Long-Term Foster Care (LTFC) program at Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains (LFSRM) provides care and support to Unaccompanied Children (UC) in federal custody as they wait for their immigration case to be resolved so they can transition to a more long term program or living arrangement. UCs are placed with licensed foster families and attend public school while they are in the program allowing them to have more normalized experiences in family based environment.

JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Medical Coordinator/ Program Assistant is responsible for serving as the subject matter expert for relevant insurance panels required medical and dental services for program youth and for maintaining positive working relationships with contracted providers. This position is also responsible for reconciling and addressing all billing errors to ensure accurate billing with no profit loss. Additionally this position is responsible for completing clerical and administrative tasks to support the LTFC program.

REQUIRED COMPETANCIES

  • Improve program processes: Experience with aligning practices policies and procedures for clear and consistent practices across all programs.
  • Apply medical billing expertise: Experience with medical billing best practices.
  • Build helping relationships: Experience with developing a collaborative helping relationship addressing any ruptures or strains in the relationship fostering bonding and gaining trust and cooperation through empathic listening caring warmth and authenticity.
  • Work collaboratively with program leaders: Familiarity with collaborating with program leaders and other departments ensuring effective service and communication.

EXAMPLE ACTIVITIES

  • Formulate treatment authorization requests to underwriters for clients as needed.
  • Service as the subject matter expert for relevant insurance panels.
  • Schedule and facilitate initial medical screenings follow up visits and any other medical/ dental related appointments as required by federal requirements.
  • Develop recruit and maintain positive working relationships between contracted providers to include all health providers and related partners.
  • Manage and maintain the record-keeping process to ensure there is effective filing system in which information is forwarded smoothly.
  • Reconcile and address all billing errors to ensure accurate billing with no profit loss.
  • Data entry including document scanning and reporting using identified databases.
  • Compiles data as needed for monthly reporting.
  • Provides administrative support to program staff to ensure program runs efficiently.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 1 year experience in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination health administration or direct clinical care AND any of the following:
  • Bachelors Degree in a relevant field OR
  • Licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN/ LVN) OR
  • Higher health-related qualification (e.g. licensed register nurse (RN) with a bachelors degree).
  • Bi-Lingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.

VACCINATION POLICY

Due to policy requirements from the Office of Refugee Resettlement staff in this Long-Term Foster Care Program who work directly with Unaccompanied Children must present proof of immunization or immunity (within 120 days of hire) to the following diseases: Varicella MMR Tdap and annual Influenza; or an approved exemption from Human Resources.
