Job Description

Position Title: Senior Project Accountant

Department: Finance

Reports to: Director of Finance

Employment Status: Full-time

FSLA Status: Exempt

Salary: $75000 - $85000 annually

The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for analyzing and recording assigned transactions in the general ledger as well as preparing schedules and account reconciliations. The position conducts award analysis prepares financial reports assists in coordination of monthly and yearly closes and reviews supporting documentation to ensure compliance with policies procedures and funder requirements. The Senior Project Accountant works closely with the other members of the finance team to streamline financial tasks and processes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze assigned transactions and ensure proper recording in the general ledger.
  • Prepare financial reports for assigned awards (grants and contracts) in line with funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on implementation of cost-recovery models and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Review documentation for assigned transactions to ensure compliance with policies procedures and funder rules and regulations.
  • Perform reconciliations of assigned project and general ledger accounts.
  • Create and maintain general ledger account schedules.
  • Analyze assigned contracts and grant agreements to ensure compliance with award requirements and funder rules and regulations.
  • Assist with developing and updating financial tracking and analysis tools.
  • Field questions and provide training to program colleagues to empower them to manage financial aspects of their programs.
  • Coordinate expense allocations among various programs.
  • Assist with streamlining financial tasks and processes.
  • Process biweekly payroll and ensure supporting documentation is saved in the system.
  • Assist in coordination of monthly and yearly closes.
  • Support annual audit internal reviews and 990 preparation.
  • Contribute towards a culture of continuous learning and process improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES)

  • Experience applying US GAAP to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions.
  • Advanced general ledger reconciliation skills.
  • Experience with streamlining tasks and processes.
  • Demonstrated advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations that apply to diverse funding sources such as governmental foundation and corporate.
  • Experience with financial software applications such as Intacct and .
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect an ability to seamlessly perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in accounting finance business or related fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in non-profit accounting.
