Join a dedicated team committed to delivery safe efficient and effective anaesthetic care at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital. We are seeking a skilled Anaesthetist to support our surgical and critical care services.
About the Role:
You will play a key role in providing comprehensive anaesthetic services across four operating theatres which supports a broad elective surgical procedure for:
Orthopaedics Hip and Knee replacement general orthopaedic procedures
General Surgery Laparoscopic cholecystectomy towel resections hernia repairs excision of skin lesions and gastroenterology cases.
Dental Surgery
Urology procedures
Obstetrics and Gynaecology including support for labour epidurals.
Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is a level 4 service providing anaesthesia for ASA 1 and 2 patients undergoing selected complex major surgical procedures. You will provide anaesthesia for ASA 3 to 5 patients undergoing common and intermediate and selected major surgical procedures. You will provide emergency airway management ventilation and acute pain services. Perioperative outpatient consultancy is shared on a rotating roster with fellow Anaesthetists.
We operate on a 1:4 On Call roster and you may be called to the Emergency Department to provide Trauma Support or airway management.
Our Anaesthetist works closely with Surgical and Emergency Department contributing to perioperative assessments patient optimisation and procedural planning.

Are you an International Medical Graduate (IMG) seeking specialist registration in Australia The Expedited Specialist Pathway offers a streamlined route for eligible doctors to gain recognition and start practicing sooner. The Expedited Specialist Pathway is currently available for eligible doctors in the specialties of General Practice Anaesthesia Psychiatry and Obstetrics and Gynaecology with plans for expansion into other specialties. To be eligible for the Expedited Specialist Pathway specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMGs) must hold a specialist qualification on the Medical Boards Expedited Specialist Pathway accepted qualifications list. Accepted specialists can start practicing when the Medical Board has granted you specialist registration and approved your supervised position with a period of six (6) months supervised practice being completed. Mandatory requirements of this role include:
Admitting consultative diagnostic procedural outpatient telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD
Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover clinical supervision teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.
Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD
