Job Description

Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a passionate and driven Assistant Womens Water Polo Coach to join our NCAA Division I athletics program. Under the leadership of the Head Womens Water Polo Coach this role plays a vital part in supporting the development performance and operations of a nationally competitive team.

The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of the program including coaching mentoring student-athletes managing administrative responsibilities and coordinating team travel logistics. This is an exciting opportunity to grow professionally in a collaborative and high-performance environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and conducting practices training sessions and competitive strategies
  • Support the development and performance of student-athletes both athletically and academically
  • Manage administrative tasks including scheduling compliance documentation and equipment coordination

  • Contribute to recruitment efforts by identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes

Position Information

  • This is a part-time (19 hours per week) temporary position with an anticipated end date one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment.
  • This appointment is for a 10/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months with December 5 2025 - January 5 2026 and June 2026 as the anticipated off months.
  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics utilizing the services of over 150 employees is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently there are 18 sport programs approximately 550 student-athletes and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club/Development Administration Athletic Medicine Business Office Compliance Communications External Corporate Sales Equipment Event Management/Facilities and Operations Human Resources Information Technology Marketing Strength and Conditioning Student-Athlete Academic Support Services Ticket Office and Video.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree. At least one year of high school collegiate or junior/community college experience as an assistant water polo coach.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presents a positive image.
  • Masters degree is preferred.
  • Two or more years as a water polo coach in NCAA Division I II or III. Division I playing experience is preferred.
  • National and international recruiting connections including USA Water Polo Olympic Development Pipeline (ODP).
  • Knowledge of conference rules and regulations.
  • Experience with community outreach programs.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Valid California Drivers License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.
  • Must obtain CPR/AED First Aid and Lifesaving certifications within 60 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

San Diego State University offers competitive compensation.

Salary is based on your experience education and qualifications within the departments budget and equity guidelines.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $2615.83 - $3171.58/month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $2615.83/month.
