About Indus Action
Indus Action is a "do-tank" to bridge the gap between law and action with social justice at the center of our mission. Indus Action works towards securing a social protection safety net for vulnerable families by providing sustainable access to a portfolio of welfare entitlements and rights (POWER). Our approach tackles multiple deprivations experienced by vulnerable families. It provides educational access to children maternity entitlements to pregnant and lactating mothers income and social security support to parents and senior citizens and universal healthcare to all family members to irreversibly move vulnerable families out of poverty. Our teams are located in Delhi Uttarakhand Haryana Uttar Pradesh West Bengal Orissa Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.

Position Summary
We re looking for a Director of Technology who brings a rare blend of strategic depth and hands-on capability. You will drive the end-to-end technology and product vision while also rolling up your sleeves to ensure high-quality execution across all digital touchpoints. This is a builder s role - perfect for someone who thrives in high-growth environments can architect scalable platforms and leads teams by example. You ll own engineering and product functions ensuring alignment with the company s ambitious growth plans.
Role and Responsibilities (including KRAs)
Define and own the engineering and product vision ensuring alignment with business objectives and market opportunities
Architect and scale consumer-facing web & mobile applications
Lead and mentor teams across product management design UX and engineering
Execute a robust and agile product roadmap ensuring rapid iteration and market responsiveness
Implement best-in-class software development practices CI/CD pipelines and platform security measures
Drive data architecture analytics and platform scalability
Build a high-performance tech culture focusing on both innovation and operational excellence
Work closely with cross-functional teams (Government Relations Operations Fund Raising) to drive product market fit
Stay on top of emerging technologies industry trends and competitor strategies
Partner with the CEO and leadership on strategic initiatives bringing a tech-product lens to business decisions
Requirements
Knowledge and Technical Skills
Ability to steer technology functions aligned with Indus Action s mission
Experience in designing building and scaling digital tools that expand access to welfare entitlements across diverse geographies
Expertise in building secure interoperable systems that integrate data across multiple platforms and departments
Skilled in identifying inefficiencies and implementing tech-driven solutions to improve service delivery and beneficiary outcomes
Competence in building frameworks for ethical data use and analysis to inform decision-making and policy engagement
Familiarity with designing intuitive user experiences for marginalized populations with varied access and digital literacy
Deep understanding of building scalable tech infrastructure suitable for high-volume public-facing platforms in low-resource settings
Strong background in cloud infrastructure microservices DevOps and agile product development
Expertise in leading product strategy UX design processes and engineering execution
Hands-on approach to leadership - a strategic thinker who is not afraid to dive deep into tech & product details

Education and Experience
15 years of progressive experience in technology and product leadership roles
Proven experience in building and scaling building and scaling digital platforms aimed at social impact
Demonstrated success in strategic planning cross-functional leadership and stakeholder engagement at national or state levels
Experience mentoring high-performing technical teams while fostering inclusive values-aligned growth environments

Compensation
The position will be compensated based on the Indus Action compensation benchmarking rubric. The range of compensation will be depending on qualifications experience and fit to the role.
Knowledge and Technical Skills Stakeholder Management Has led and managed a team of 3+ people through a project for 1+ year Partnered with the government and built relations across levels (BDO, SPD, PS, etc) to drive large-scale projects for 1+ year Has worked with government departments at a state-level for at least 2 years Project Management Has managed and delivered projects end-to-end for at least 2+ years Is well versed with principles of designing thinking, planning and execution, budget management, quality control and monitoring and evaluation Data & Technology Is capable of understanding technology (product, not code) used to set up MIS system and envisioning the scope that technology can play to make the implementation smoother Has strong analytical skills to create strategies and analyze data Research and Analysis Has worked on at least 1 project involving fieldwork/primary research (preferred) Has experience with secondary research and data analysis

Master's/ Diploma in public policy
