Job Description
We are looking for an Optical Engineer with passion for new technology development to join our
team whose mission is to deliver beyond state-of-the-art display system technologies for
consumer near to eye displays at our research and development facilities. We are looking for a
candidate with experience in novel optical device design and metrology either as part of their
PhD or industry experience.
Requirements
Optical Engineer Design Validation Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with technical leadership team technical program managers and
other research scientists and engineers to devise and execute on design analysis of
novel optical devices towards program priorities
Design build and validate novel optical systems towards AR Display Research
activities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PhD degree in the field of Engineering Optical Sciences Physics or equivalent
work experience.
3 years of experience in diffractive optics free-space optics optical alignment or
optomechanics
1 years of experience with scientific programming languages such as LabView
MATLAB Python Mathematica or similar.
1 years of experience in statistical data analysis
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3 years experience in electromagnetic modeling and analysis of nanoscale
structures metastructures anisotropic materials films or holographic elements
using algorithms such as RCWA or FDTD.
3 year of experience in optical metrology such as interferometry image quality
testing and polarization test
2 years experience in LabView programming
1 years of experience in one or more optical design tools such as VirtualLab
Code V Zemax Light Tools or FRED.
1 years of experience in hardware prototyping (e.g. bench prototyping basic
electronics and software system integration).

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required. Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience required. Significant experience in 3D and 2D CAD systems. Siemens NX preferred. Experience with over molding methodologies and tool design. Experience with a wide range of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, etc.). Experience performing mechanical system analysis, design margin analysis, and designing custom tools for assembly, testing or characterizing electro mechanical systems, and creating clear written technical documentation. Familiarity with test design, planning, and execution, including accelerated test methods. Reliability engineering, FMEA, product performance testing and test results reporting experience (DOE). Experience working in a product design/manufacturing environment. Proven ability to take initiative to identify and solve complex system level issues. Excellent analytical and empirical problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to plan work and accomplish objectives with minimal direction. Basic computer literacy skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, basic file structure understanding, networks, and web navigation. Strong written and verbal English language communication skills. Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group. Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values. Pass a post-offer background verification.
