About the Role

Prime Physicians is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Nursing to lead both clinical care delivery and administrative operations for federal and tribal healthcare contracts in South Dakota. This dual-role opportunity is ideal for a seasoned ER nurse leader who is passionate about improving access to care in rural and underserved areas.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership (50%)

• Work 8 10 ER shifts per month at the IHS Rosebud Hospital providing hands-on care and clinical oversight.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality emergency care aligned with IHS standards and Prime Physicians clinical expectations.
• Serve as the key liaison for provider integration and performance at the Rosebud site

• Provide direction and oversight for Prime Physicians nursing operations across contracts in the Central and Southeast South Dakota region.
• Assist with federal healthcare contract execution including recruitment compliance credentialing and performance evaluation of nursing staff.
• Contribute to strategic planning and business development for nursing programs and services across tribal federal and rural contracts.
• Lead initiatives in quality management nurse retention training support and issue resolution across sites.
• Support proposal development and partner with leadership on federal program strategies and growth.

Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10 years of total nursing experience.
• At least 5 years of hands-on Emergency Room nursing experience.
• Minimum 2 years in a management or leadership capacity (e.g. Nurse Manager Charge Nurse DON etc.).
• Active and unrestricted RN license (or eligible) in South Dakota and Iowa.
• Strong leadership communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel to Rosebud and regional sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience with IHS tribal health programs or VA hospitals.
• Familiarity with federal contract staffing models compliance standards and quality reporting.
• Experience in recruitment operations performance dashboards and credentialing systems.

Work Environment & Expectations

• Hybrid role: Approximately 50% clinical/on-site and 50% administrative/remote.
• Regular clinical shifts are performed at Rosebud IHS (8 10 shifts/month).
• Preferred on-site presence 1 day/week at the Sioux City office.
• Administrative responsibilities may be completed remotely with occasional regional travel to client sites.
