**This position may be eligible for remote work for up to 2 days per week pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program. **
The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) protects and enhances the daily economic lives of New Yorkers to create thriving communities. DCWP licenses nearly 45000 businesses in more than 40 industries and enforces key consumer protection and workplace laws that apply to countless more. DCWP is seeking a Community Coordinator to be part of the team responsible for managing the day-to-day press operations including evenings and weekends as needed and serving as the spokespeople for the agency. Day-to-day press operations including but are not limited to: responding to daily media requests composing press releases press advisories statements remarks interview and event preparation documents talking points developing and maintaining media lists; promoting agency initiatives through pitching supporting and attending media events and other creative strategies; developing and distributing other information to the media; preparing DCWP staff for press interviews and events; and tracking relevant press coverage.

Specific duties will include but are not limited to:
-Work with the Director of Media Relations and Deputy Press Secretary to implement the agency press strategy and manage day-to-day press;
-Generate press coverage including proactive pitching to targeted outlets and coordinating and attending press conferences and interviews and responding to incoming news media requests on deadline including drafting statements researching background information and coordinating messaging with relevant staff;
-Lead community events including roundtables business education days and other community outreach opportunities to raise public awareness of the agency;
-Coordinate community engagement efforts with community and ethnic media;
-Draft edit and finalize press materials (press advisories and releases op-eds statements letters to the editor and other external communications) ensuring that they are clear accurate engaging timely and newsworthy;
-Prepare spokespeople and staff for interviews with media outlets to ensure accuracy of information and delivery of key messages;
-Develop and maintain media lists and build and foster relationships with community and ethnic media in particular;
-Create daily news roundups that summarize and track relevant press coverage;
-Work closely with elected officials community-based organizations advocacy groups and business groups to plan and execute events of different types including roundtables press conferences and panel discussions; and
-Other duties as needed.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
