Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a contributing member of the pre-referral team.
  • Conduct evaluations on students referred for special education services.
  • Interpret evaluation data and make recommendations for services.
  • Serve as a case manager for students on their assigned caseload complying with due process expectations and timelines while maintaining appropriate documentation for students special education files.
  • Meet with parents and staff to generate goals and objectives for Individualized Education Plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents to monitor and report progress regarding the mainstream curriculum goals and objectives and behavioral expectations.
  • Communicate frequently with parents social workers school psychologists and others identified as part of the students team while adhering to data privacy practices.
  • Serve as designee for the principal at parent conferences and meetings when assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and support staff to design and deliver a program of services that meets the needs of special education students.
  • Meet with individual students and small groups to achieve the goals and objectives stated in the individualized education plan.
  • Teach students academic subjects using techniques designed to meet a students special learning needs.
  • Grade papers and homework assignments.
  • Plan and deliver lessons that meet individual needs of students in accordance with Board adopted curriculum goals essential learnings IEPs and student management policies.
  • Manage student behavior to create an atmosphere conducive to learning and promoting self-esteem for all students.
  • Coordinate the work of paraprofessionals working with students on their assigned caseload.
  • Collect useful and appropriate data to monitor report and evaluate student progress.
  • Help students develop emotionally by teaching socially acceptable behavior.
  • Participate in transition evaluation planning and programming for students on caseload when necessary.
  • Keep abreast of research and serve as a resource to staff and parents on various special education related topics.
  • Attend staff meetings in-services and participate in professional development activities.
  • Identify the educational needs of others developing formal educational or training programs or classes and teaching or instructing others.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
  • Translate or explain what information means and how it can be used.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Communicate with people outside the organization representing the organization to customers the public government and other external sources.
  • Observe receive and obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Provide personal assistance medical attention emotional support or other personal care to others such as coworkers customers or patients.
  • Monitor and review information from materials events or the environment to detect or assess problems.
  • Provide information to supervisors co-workers and subordinates by telephone in written form e-mail or in person.
  • Identify information by categorizing estimating recognizing differences or similarities and detecting changes in circumstances or events.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be eligible for an Special Education license in the State of Minnesota. Areas of preferred licensure include: EBD ABS.
  • Ability to physically support students who may be reluctant to follow directions or remove themselves to a safe location (Occasionally - training through the Crisis Prevention Institute).
