Job Description

This 15 month contract position is responsible for the strategic growth of the department with a mandate to deliver high quality products at the best possible value for the customer while maximizing sales and profitability.  The performance of these duties must ensure a quality service approach to all customers employees and suppliers.  All responsibilities must be performed in a manner consistent with the Farm Boy Way.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Merchandising to shape and direct how the department concept will continually evolve.
  • Create and present with the Buyer specific strategies and details around all new initiatives and coordinate new product launches with the Buyer including product distributions and order quantities.
  • Working with the Buyer plan merchandising strategies to support consistent sales growth and maximum gross profit.
  • Adjust plans as required to support specific priorities issues and specific store problems.
  • Communicate new initiatives to Merchandising Specialists and Retail create execution guides and follow up to ensure proper execution of new initiatives.
  • Consistently look for and present ways to scale department functions to support future growth.
  • Strategize new concepts and merchandising plans with Procurement based on regionality and business growth.
  • In collaboration with the Buyer plan out merchandising changes/planograms with the Merchandising team as well as strategies and planograms for all seasonal events.
  • Work with the Procurement team and Retail to plan individual planograms for each store and provide ongoing direction for maintenance of layouts.
  • Work closely with the Advertising team to create signage plans for new and existing products and conduct weekly reviews and updates of special sign program.
  • Provide support to the Merchandising Specialists for proper execution with the store teams as well as support on specific initiatives.
  • Conduct daily and weekly communication meetings with the Merchandising Specialists as well as store visits to support merchandising execution.
  • Complete frequent competition reviews and communicate observations to the Procurement team. 
  • Coordinate new store set ups with the Merchandising and Procurement teams and provide support to the Merchandising Specialists for new store openings.
  • Support regional teams with training of new managers for new stores.
  • May be requested to undertake other related duties on a periodic basis.

Qualifications :

  • Typically requires completion of post-secondary education with an emphasis in Merchandising Marketing or Business Management plus 3 to 5 years experience in a progressively responsible role working within a retail environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to motivate a large team of people in driving fully aligned initiatives.
  • Retail experience based in success and progress at all levels and sound knowledge of business principles.
  • Clear and effective communication style both written and oral and the ability to conduct regular business presentations across all levels of management.
  • Good knowledge of retail industry and food products with superior standards of quality.
  • Excellent analytical skills with impeccable organization and attention to detail.
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in working with various computer software programs; e.g. Microsoft Suite.
  • Skilled at working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining priorities and a high level of performance.
  • Ability to travel for an extended time to cover all regions of Farm Boy.
  • Fluency in English and French shall be considered an asset.

Work & Sensory Environment:

  • Providing service to several people or departments working under many simultaneous deadlines.
  • Exposure to eye strain from computer terminals.
