Application Engineer II - IAM Modernization

Our Identity & Access Management (IAM) Modernization team is at the heart of this mission. This team is responsible for transforming Mollies customer-facing authentication infrastructure from a home-grown system to a scalable modern solution that supports our next phase of growth.

About the Lisbon hub

Situated in the heart of Lisbon at Marqus de Pombal our engineering hub has grown to 60 engineers across multiple domains. Were proud of our diverse English-speaking culture that thrives on collaboration continuous improvement and impact. Our teams are shaping the future of payments and financial services through robust backend systems seamless user experiences and innovative financial products.

What youll be doing

  • Contribute to the migration of Mollies customer-facing IAM infrastructure from home-grown systems to modern third-party solutions such as Auth0 or ORY.

  • Design implement and maintain secure authentication and authorization flows that serve hundreds of thousands of users.

  • Collaborate with platform product and security teams to ensure IAM solutions are seamlessly integrated across Mollies ecosystem.

  • Ensure high availability and reliability of IAM services applying infrastructure-as-code best practices using Docker Kubernetes and Terraform.

  • Participate in code reviews technical discussions and architecture decisions within the team.

  • Contribute to documentation and internal knowledge sharing to help the broader engineering organization work with our new IAM platform effectively.

What youll bring

  • Always Be Shipping Mindset: Its about consistently delivering value to customers where speed and quality go hand in hand.

  • 5 years of experience working in software engineering primarily in PHP or Java.

  • Experience with authentication platforms (e.g. Auth0 ORY Keycloak) is a strong nice-to-have especially in the context of migrating from custom-built solutions.

  • Familiarity with Docker Kubernetes and Terraform is a big plus.

  • A solid understanding of software design principles secure coding practices and modern development workflows.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

  • A mindset of ownership pragmatism and continuous improvement.
