About the role

Are you a legally qualified professional with a passion for upholding the integrity of the legal profession in Aotearoa New Zealand We are seeking a dedicated in-house Solicitor to join our Professional Standards team in Wellington.

As an in-house Solicitor in our Professional Standards department you will play a key role in supporting the Law Societys regulatory functions. Youll assist with licensing and disciplinary matters provide legal advice contribute to policy development and collaborate across teams to uphold ethical standards in the legal community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on regulatory and ethical matters.
  • Support the Law Societys specialist regulatory committees with advice and secretariat support.
  • Contribute to the development and drafting of guidelines policies and practice briefings.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including Standards Committees and external counsel.
  • Support investigations into potential offences under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006.
  • Assist with proceedings before the Courts or the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal when required.

Our ideal applicant will have:

  • A legal qualification with a minimum of 35 years relevant experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent judgement discretion and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work independently.
  • High computer literacy and attention to detail.
