PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide supplemental literacy instruction to Beginner/Intermediate English Learners (6-12) in need of additional support in developing English literacy. Teacher shall integrate critical processes and features of second language acquisition in lessons/activities to ensure English Learners fulfill their potential for cognitive linguistic affective physical and social growth.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors Degree required
Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements for subject/level assigned or other permits as approved by state required
ESL Certificate required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written) in both English and Spanish; utilize effective interpersonal skills; demonstrate knowledge of subjects assigned; exhibit general knowledge of curriculum and instruction; basic computer skills; understanding of Second Language Acquisition; multi-cultural awareness.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher preferred
Experience in an ESL classroom preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan and exemplify model lessons for students needing above and beyond the concepts that include effective strategies that are planned with depth complexity and rigor.
Participate with Department members in the planning of instruction to ensure that the effective teaching strategies are in place for English Learners.
Gather and assist in analyzing data and administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress of English Learners in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
Advocate for English Learners to ensure that they have the resources needed to master skills.
Monitor the progress of English Learners struggling and offer suggestions to parents for intervention to meet students Reading needs.
Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues students parents and community members.
Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Participate and demonstrate an initiative in the campus and district professional development.
Demonstrate behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required.
Attend and participate in department and faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Demonstrate loyalty within a team approach to District initiatives.
Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).
