Staff Accountant-Payroll-Lyon College is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Business Office. This position will manage payroll processing for faculty staff and student employees ensuring accuracy compliance and timely reporting. The role also provides support in accounts payable receivable and general ledger functions and serves as backup for other business office roles. The Staff Accountant-Payroll reports directly to the Director of Finance and works closely with colleagues in theBusiness Office to ensure smooth and efficient financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
Process semimonthly payroll for faculty staff and student employees in compliance with
applicable laws regulations and College policies.
Maintain payroll records including timesheets deductions and leave accruals.
Prepare and file required payroll tax reports and other related filings.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay deductions and time reporting.
Accounting & Business Office Support
Assist with accounts payable accounts receivable and general ledger entries as needed.
Prepare and reconcile monthly account statements and reports.
Support grant and fund accounting processes as assigned.
Serve as a backup for other Business Office staff during absences or peak workloads.
Compliance
Maintain compliance with federal state and local payroll laws and regulations.
Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
Qualifications
Payroll and/or accounting experience required; higher education or nonprofit experience
preferred.
Knowledge of payroll laws wage and hour regulations and payroll tax reporting.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Strong attention to detail organizational skills and confidentiality.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
