About the job position

As part of the finance department of the MVII terminal APMT is looking for CAPEX Controller to control the EUR 1 billion CAPEX budget for the Maasvlakte II expansion (MVII-E) project started in Q3 2023 and until 2027.

Project Execution is a key value driver in APM Terminals. Our ability to build/upgrade a terminal establish an operational organization and secure commercial business delivers real NPV to APMT.

The Cost Controller creates full understanding of Maasvlakte II expansion (MVII-E) project investment breakdown and timeline. Controls capital expenditures estimates and follow-up on same togethers with Asset delivery team and other stakeholders. Ensures that policies and guidelines are developed in accordance with overall strategies and policies set out and envisioned by the Head of Finance.

This is to be achieved through value-based teamwork and it is expected that you make constant process improvement in the way we do our business.

Key responsibilities

  • Gather data required for reporting on Maasvlakte II expansion (MVII-E) project progress vs budget. Review and reconcile such to ensure its validity and accuracy and provide the Finance business partner and other stakeholders with required reporting in a timely manner including variance analyses.

  • Ensure proper documentation of any changes to scope or budget of the MVII-E project.

  • Ensure proper approvals are in place before any investment decisions including change management processes.

  • Maintain up-to date monthly capital expenditure Maasvlakte II expansion (MVII-E) project report including year to date rest of year and project estimate to complete.

  • Work very close with Asset delivery team on Finance related tasks i.e. reporting forecasts payment execution

  • Review follow-up and control over bank guarantees and insurance policies related to project contracts.

  • Review the capitalization of fixed assets together with the accounting team.

  • Review supplier invoices related to project and ensure proper approvals are in place from the Asset delivery team.

  • Full understanding of project contracts and ensure adherence to contract deliverables milestones scope and control over financial impact accordingly.

  • Monthly payment schedule/investment cash flow (with comments on overrun (if any) compared to initial investment plan.

  • Maintain an updated version of the project Financial Model.

  • Preparing business case studies scenario analysis and long-term forecasts in relation to the project Business Plan.

  • Follow ROFO process described in Finance Handbook and organize the sign offs

  • Follow Investment Follow-up (IFU) process and support data verification/collection

We are looking for

  • Have at least 3 years of progressively more responsible general accounting and finance experience preferably with a project implementation experience

  • Have an university degree in business or accounting. Knowledge of IFRS accounting standards required.

  • Requires good verbal and written communications skills in addition to effective interpersonal skills.

  • Fluent in English is a must and Dutch is preferred.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Requires a high level of planning and organizational skills.

  • Requires excellent analytical skills including the ability to extract compile and analyse data.

  • Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment

  • Must be able to handle company information with confidentiality and discretion
