Job Description

Senior Cost Accountant
Available: September 2025

The Senior Cost Accountant opportunity is open due to internal promotion with a multi-billion dollar manufacturer in Berks County with terrific company culture and room for career development.

Job Purpose/Summary:

Position is responsible for valuation and reporting of inventory maintaining material & labor costs in the bill of materials applying overhead cost preparing cost of sales quotes reporting gross profit margins by division and providing other cost reports and cost details requested by management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Overall technical expert for complex divisions Automotive Stationary Industrial &or Metals
  • Supervise & train cost accountants
  • Review costs in various systems to ensure accuracy
  • Review engineering specifications making cost changes & working with engineers to make non-cost changes as needed for labor material & overhead
  • Gather & analyze production data for annual labor cost updates
  • Review & understand manufacturing changes with plant managers to update labor cost calculations
  • Prepare cost quotes and detailed cost breakouts for Corporate Pricing & Sales
  • Value inventory quantities and report inventory monthly to financial accounting & executives
  • Audit year end manufacturing & distribution inventory counts
  • Provide external auditors reports and assistance as needed
  • Analyze data inventory bills of materials quote requests etc. to identify inaccuracies; follow up with department heads to resolve
  • Report obsolete inventory to inventory control for removal from records & disposal
  • Compile gross profit analysis for sales & executives
  • Prepare cost comparison analysis for Continuous Improvement Engineering and other departments as requested
  • Maintain documentation for all work processes; documentation can also be used for training of & backup by coworkers
  • Review & improve costing processes evaluating materiality of costs and time required for each process
  • Participate on APQP and project teams as needed
  • Lead project teams related to product costs and cost systems
  • Prepare & understand various cost reports for all levels of management e.g. Manufacturing Overhead
  • Update cost accumulation systems to improve efficiency often working with IT for development and testing
Education/Certification
  • Bachelor s degree preferably in Accounting

Experience & Qualifications
  • On-the-job experience in EPM Cost Accounting
  • Understanding of EPM cost systems including Glovia Mainframe MSR EICS IQS & SQL
  • Working knowledge of MS Teams Excel Word and Outlook
  • Understanding of Cost & Financial Accounting
Skills & Competencies

Required:
  • Ability to learn & understand systems used to accumulate costs currently Glovia and Mainframe
  • Ability to trace costs back to the detailed components
  • Ability to understand & teach cost accountants the bill of materials used at EPM
  • Ability to answer difficult cost & cost reporting questions and resolve cost differences independently
  • Ability to understand the impact of business changes on current cost systems & reports and proactively revise processes & reports to incorporate the changes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers within & outside the department at all levels of management including executives
  • Ability to prioritize cost requests due dates and requirements without supervision
  • Ability to meet deadlines consistently providing accurate data on time
  • Ability to recognize work processes that need improvement and to make changes for increased efficiency & accuracy
  • Ability to lead project teams of coworkers of all levels

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with 30-minute lunch. Overtime as required including the last Saturday closest to the end of May the company s fiscal year end physical inventory.
