Job Description

Position Summary

Serves as a trusted advisor providing a sounding board to day-to-day issues the mentee may experience on-the-job and provide alternate perspectives on issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

(These duties and responsibilities are judged to be essential functions in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA)

  • Provides District level training to new hires or those on performance plans to ensure consistent district-wide policies and procedures are followed.
  • Guides mentees using their knowledge and experience towards growing the individual and helping with their success.
  • Observes mentee and provides appropriate and timely constructive feedback.
  • Be a resource and point-of-contact for questions and/or concerns for mentee.
  • Check-in with mentee periodically to evaluate and address their questions or concerns.
  • Encourages the explorations of ideas and learning to mentee.
  • Build mentee confidence.

Education:

This position requires high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Currently working in the role that they will be mentoring.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in that role in the district.
  • All performance evaluations must be minimally meets all expectations in all areas for the previous five years.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of basic math including calculating amounts percentages units of measure discounts etc. required.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of works rules of composition and grammar required.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills required.
  • Knowledge of electrical plumbing air handling systems HVAC boiler systems required
  • Knowledge of methods materials tools equipment occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building maintenance required.
  • Knowledge of blood borne pathogen guidelines required
  • Knowledge in demonstrated leadership and Initiative required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively train and mentor others required
  • Ability to read and interpret district policies guidelines handbook and government regulations required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules operating and maintenance instructions school polices and procedure manuals required.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists required.
  • Ability to handle emergencies and critical operational building problems required.
  • Ability to perform minor plumbing repairs including but not limited to cleaning and unplugging traps elbows and replacing plumbing software such as washers vacuum breakers O rings required.
  • Ability to perform minor electrical repairs including but not limited to light switches wall plugs light ballasts required.
  • Ability to handle maintenance work for carpentry and painting required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively using the English language with students staff community members parents and administrators required.
  • Ability to perform job duties using various types of equipment including but not limited to; mops all varieties of vacuums floor machines power tools ladders hand tools gator type vehicles snow blowers etc required.
  • Ability to perform job duties using a variety of cleaning chemicals required.
  • Ability to perform job duties in extreme hot and/or cold temperatures required.
  • Ability to operate and work with pallet jack when moving items more than 50lbs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and be a good listener required.

Skills:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills required
  • Customer Service Skills required

Mentor Sessions

Must have at least 16 hours of mentorship sessions with each new hire. A Mentor Log must be completed and submitted upon completion of mentorship period to receive the mentorship stipend.

Evaluation

Mentors will be evaluated by mentees as to their effectiveness in the role in order to continue in the role.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of files and materials etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
