Job Summary
The Environmental Health Inspector I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the inspection monitoring and enforcement of environmental health standards in various settings. Under the supervision of more senior inspectors or managers the Environmental Health Inspector I conducts inspections identifies potential health hazards and assists in enforcing environmental health regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist in conducting routine inspections of food establishments water systems sanitation facilities and other public health environments to ensure compliance with health and report health and safety violations to senior inspectors making recommendations for corrective and analyze samples of food water and other materials for testing in preparing inspection reports documenting violations and tracking corrective actions in public health outreach and educational efforts by providing basic information on environmental health practices to the public and to public inquiries and complaints regarding environmental health concerns.
Knowledge and Skills
Basic understanding of environmental health principles public health safety standards food safety sanitation and water quality to assist in conducting inspections collecting data and maintaining attention to detail and good organizational to learn and apply environmental health regulations and enforcement communication skills to assist facility operators and the to complete on-the-job training and coursework to obtain certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) within a specified of basic environmental health standards and public health practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in environmental health public health biology or a related field.
Licensure/Certifications
