Position Summary

The focus for the position of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist /Facilities Coordinator will be primarily the EH&S duties to lead all aspects of EHS management at the Airbus Defense and Space facility and property located in Mobile AL. The position will also be responsible for providing guidance to the North American Airbus team as it relates to EHS topics outside of the Mobile AL addition to the primary responsibility as EH&S Specialist this position will oversee the facilities Coordination needs for the Mobile AL site location.

Primary Responsibilities

EH&S duties & responsibilities:

  • Maintain develop and coordinate applicable site wide EHS training programs including but not limited to technical documents including policies procedures programs and guidance documents.
  • Support other Airbus Defense and Space locations across the region with EHS regulatory compliance requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Will coordinate deliver and track employee EHS training programs using various techniques including computer base lecture and on the job-related assessments.
  • Led hazard assessments by participating in work processes evaluating procedures and work steps.
  • Manage efforts related to visitor vendor and contractor orientation training as well as EHS program evaluation prior to working on the site.
  • Develop and maintain an ISO 14001:2015 certification for the Mobile AL site.
  • Focal point for all environmental compliance activities including but not limited to site permits regulatory reporting employee training internal site inspections record retention external environmental audits.
  • Track EHS trends evaluate statistics on a regular basis and guide leaders using leading and lagging data driven decisions.
  • Facilitates EHS site audits inspections and routine surveys including the developing and drafting of audit documentation tracking corrective actions and monitoring trends.
  • Implement an employee lead EHS ambassador team to participate in hazard identification participation in investigations leadership in site assessments and corrective actions.
  • Organize and lead industrial hygiene fit testing and annual audiometric testing as required.
  • Provide program support to all departments regarding regulatory compliance requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Focal point for site Crisis Management Team (CMT) who is responsible for guiding the site leadership team on the expected or ongoing crisis and mitigations required for people safety and business continuity.
  • Communicate workplace safety precautions to employees and identify safety risks for corrective action.
  • Provide support to facilities to escort vendors draft documents and project management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Clear communication both oral and written required.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Must be driven to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with subordinates co-workers and supervisors.
  • Be knowledgeable to comply with OSHA Safety Regulations.
  • Participate and conduct training as required.
  • Observe safety procedures and personnel policies.
  • Regular attendance required as outlined in company policy.
  • Must understand read and write proficiently in the English language to support writing of procedures and other internal documents.

Other Requirements of the position:

  • Must be able to see clearly with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to hear clearly with or without hearing aid devices.
  • Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time and reach overhead regularly.
  • Must regularly be able to sit squat and bend.
  • Must be able to climb ladders occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must understand and be able to wear Personal Safety Equipment per Company Policy and Procedures in certain work areas.

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in industrial and/or Environmental Health and Safety Engineering or related fields or certification with 5 years proven experience in an industrial environment.
  • Certifications: OSHA RCRA DOT FEMA or any other related certifications in EHS is desired.

Knowledge Skills Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Minimum 5 Years experience in a position of Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Previous experience working in an industrial environment required.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience working in an environmental health and safety position in a production environment.
  • Experience working with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a facilities maintenance role supporting the facility operations.
  • MS Office experience preferred.

Travel Required:

  • Travel - less than 10%

Moderate communication skills required on a daily basis with internal and external parties
