Role Overview: The Daytime Crisis Specialist is responsible for answering the daytime crisis phone line and responding to crisis calls from Valley Cities clients and community members. The Daytime Crisis Specialist will complete risk assessments to determine clients safety and appropriate level of care. The Daytime Crisis Specialist will also complete intake assessments for clients referred to our Next Day Appointment (NDA) program and meet regularly with an NDA caseload. The Daytime Crisis Specialist will also coordinate care with emergency department social workers and contact clients after emergency department visits. The Daytime Crisis Specialist may also provide crisis outreach to hospitals jails and community settings. Key Responsibilities: The employee must have the ability to: - Provide crisis services to clients of Valley Cities including mental health risk assessments stabilization support and referral services.
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in evaluating suicidal ideation homicidal ideation and grave disability.
- Use clinical judgement and de-escalation skills when working with clients who may be in distress or experiencing a crisis.
- Coordinate client care with clients ongoing care team at Valley Cities.
- Coordinate client care with hospital staff DCRs and other community partners.
- Complete Next Day Appointment intake assessments and have an ongoing caseload of NDA clients.
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in assisting clients with safety planning.
- Use Collective Medical to review recent hospital discharges and follow-up with clients as needed.
- Assist in identifying and linking clients to appropriate community-based services and support (primary care mental health and/or substance abuse treatment housing financial benefits etc.)
- Prepare written affidavits/declarations and revocations per requirements of the Superior Court of King County with adequate knowledge regarding the legal criteria for involuntary hospitalization.
- Complete service notes mental health assessments safety plans and other necessary documentation within 24 hours of completing an outreach.
- Complete all documentation in compliance with agency policies administrative codes and requirements of funding and/or contract sources.
- Respond to subpoenas for ITA court and testify as needed.
- Learn and follow all related JCAHO Federal State and local requirements and established Valley Cities Policies and Procedures.
- Engage with clients in a professional manner with healthy and defined boundaries.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor and team.
- Attend in-service training and meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What Were Looking For: Education: - Masters degree in the social or behavioral sciences; and MHP meeting King County and Washington State Mental Health Professional (MHP) requirements as set forth in WAC ; RCW 71.05.020(27) and RCW 71.34.020(14
Experience: - Crisis assessment and response
- Safety planning with clients over the phone and in-person
- Knowledge regarding the ITA process
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of professionals and a diverse client population with a strengths-based approach
- Experience working in hospital settings (preferred)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: - Suicide assessment prevention and intervention training in accordance with King County guidelines
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Care principles and service provision
- Good communication skills teamwork and attitude

- Ability to adapt flexibility
Additional Qualifications: - Ability to obtain Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration upon hire.
