Position Summary:
Alexander D. Henderson University School and FAU High School is a K-12 public developmental laboratory research school under Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Lab Schools on the campus of Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The schools excellence is nationally recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School inand 2024. The Florida Board of Education has also designated the school as a School of Excellence.
A.D. Henderson and FAU High has unique programs such as a fully-immersive early college model providing students the opportunity to earn a bachelors degree and high school diploma simultaneously. FAU High School in Partnership with Max Planck Academy on the FAU Jupiter campus is the only school partnered with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience.
Being co-located on FAUs Boca and Jupiter campuses allows the school to leverage its relationship with FAU to provide distinctive educational experiences through collaboration with professors and researchers and the shared use of school and university facilities.
Position Summary:
The Research Specialist for FAUs K-12 laboratory school A.D. Henderson University School (ADHUS) and FAU High School (FAUHS) collaborates with a team of educators and researchers to perform a range of activities in support of the research departmental functions including assigned academic duties (both K-12 and university) and providing support for students and faculty across two campuses.
Responsibilities:
- Teach university research methodology courses as a part of the FAUHS Research Program including but not limited to Multidisciplinary Introduction to Research (EDF 2910) and Multidisciplinary Research Methods 1 (EDF 2911) Multidisciplinary Research Methods 2 (EDF 3912) and Multidisciplinary Research Methods 3 (EDF 3913)
- Develop and deliver curriculum to support the science standards being taught in kindergarten through 9th grade in the Elementary Science Lab the mock Archaeological Dig Site and the Marcus Innovation and Research Center
- Manage the Student Talent Ambassadors for Results (STAR) Program of FAUHS student research volunteers including designing and providing training sessions scheduling the volunteers to assist with K-12 lab activities program maintenance and volunteer recognition
- Mentor FAU High School Research Program research students
- Coordinate aspects of the FAUHS Research Program including scheduling courses advertising course offerings to students helping students receive registration permission managing Canvas sites developing the monthly research newsletter and managing department website content
- Support research collaborations and projects in the Marcus Innovation and Research Center
- Collect data manage data and generate reports on lab school research initiatives
- Conduct independent research and mentor FAUHS student researchers on projects resulting in the dissemination of the results
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
A masters degree from an accredited institution
Research experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of 1-2 years of K-12 or collegiate teaching experience
