The Faculty has seen significant development and growth in teaching and research in areas related to digital humanities fostering an interdisciplinary approach that integrates technology with the humanities. This position is crucial in supporting this growth by providing the necessary software tools and expertise to enhance our research capabilities.

We are seeking a dedicated (Senior) Research Software Officer like Research Software Engineer (RSE) with expertise and interest in digital humanities to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between research and software development. The ideal candidate will collaborate with researchers in the digital humanities field develop innovative software solutions and enhance existing systems to support our academic communitys growth in teaching and research related to digital humanities.

Responsibilities:

• Software Development:Design develop and maintain software that supports various research activities within digital humanities including data analysis visualisation and digital archiving;
• Collaboration:Work closely with researchers in the digital humanities to understand their requirements and translate them into effective software solutions that facilitate new insights and discoveries;
• Optimisation:Improve the performance and efficiency of existing research software particularly those used in digital humanities projects;
• Documentation:Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for software projects ensuring clarity and usability for researchers in the digital humanities;
• Training and Support:Provide training and support to researchers on software tools and best practices with a focus on applications relevant to digital humanities; and
• Project Management:Manage software development projects including timelines and deliverables to ensure successful outcomes that align with the Facultys goals in digital humanities.

Requirements:

• Educational Background:A degree in computer science digital humanities or a related field; postgraduate degrees may be preferred;
• Technical Skills:Proficiency in programming languages such as Python C or Java. Familiarity with digital humanities tools and methodologies is essential;
• Experience: At least 2 years ofwork experience in software development particularly in a research or academic environment focused on digital humanities is preferred;
• Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively especially within the context of digital humanities; and
• Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to tackle complex challenges specific to digital humanities research.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract for two years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
