POSITION DESCRIPTION
Custodian I

Pay Grade(s): 4 ($18.79 DOE)
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt

Purpose:
Custodian I
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean sanitary and safe environment in assigned buildings and facilities. Duties may include performing unscheduled activities notifying management of the need for servicing and additional cleaning.

Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
Perform routine and deep cleaning tasks including sweeping mopping vacuuming dusting trash removal and restroom sanitation.
Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request restocking as needed.
Ensure proper and safe use of custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.
Respond to custodial issues service requests or complaints promptly and professionally.
Perform floor care tasks such as stripping waxing polishing and carpet spot cleaning.
Identify and report building maintenance issues or safety hazards to appropriate personnel.
Move equipment and supplies as needed using proper lifting techniques or equipment.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support a clean safe and well-maintained facility.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities. A comprehensive set of capabilities required to perform job tasks effectively:
Knowledge of custodial cleaning techniques and equipment including routine and deep cleaning for various facility types.
Proficient in tracking inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and ensuring timely restocking as needed.
Knowledge of safety protocols and the proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
Excellent problem-solving abilities to address and resolve custodial issues or complaints quickly and professionally.
Proficient in various floor care techniques such as stripping sealing waxing polishing floors and spot cleaning or shampooing carpets.
The ability to identify when custodial equipment needs maintenance or repair and communicate these needs to management.
Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with staff and building occupants regarding cleaning concerns or service requests.
Flexible and adaptable able to adjust cleaning schedules and procedures based on changing facility needs or unexpected events.
The ability to work well in a team collaborating with other staff members and departments to ensure a clean safe and well-maintained facility.

Minimum Qualifications (education experience skills):
Custodian I
High School Diploma or GED
General understanding of custodial and/or housekeeping services.

Must be 21 years of age with a Valid Drivers License

Physical Requirements. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds perform repetitive tasks involving standing walking bending kneeling climbing and crouching.

Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job:
Some travel may be required on small aircraft or ferry.
Certain positions at Tlingit and Haida may have exposure to certain hazardous materials or conditions. The supervisor will review these if applicable.
