POSITION SUMMARY:
In accordance with the Disability and Learning Resource Centers mission the temporary Disability Specialist will provide services to SAIC students with disabilities. The position is responsible for determining eligibility identifying access and accommodations needs and developing a plan for the provision of reasonable accommodations for students seeking DLRC services. The position requires frequent interaction with students parents faculty and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Engage in the interactive process with students and at times parents faculty and staff.
Collect and review students disability documentation for determining eligibility for accommodations and disability related academic interventions.
Document all interactions with individual students using AIM the departments electronic record keeping system.
Maintain confidentiality with students medical and disability information.
Advise students on how accommodations work and ways to self-advocate with instructors.
Offer guidance and support on departmental service issues when needed.
Collaborate with SAIC staff and faculty on disability issues.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred in disability studies rehabilitation counseling special education psychology social work or a related field.
Demonstrated expertise in serving college students with disabilities with a particular emphasis on psychological disabilities.
In-depth knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Familiarity with federal and state disability resources and agencies.
