SUMMARY: The Senior Manager of R&D oversees all roles functions and activities within the R&D department. This position is responsible for building and leading a best-in-class team while developing efficient processes for research innovation and commercialization. The role drives new product launches product optimization and modifications of existing items ensuring alignment with company goals customer expectations and operational capabilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Mentor and coach R&D staff fostering technical skills innovation mindset and career development.
- Manage the R&D project pipeline from concept through commercialization ensuring alignment with Marketing Sales Operations and Supply Chain.
- Audit refine and continually improve product development processes to ensure efficiency and excellence.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective customers to understand their needs and align with company capabilities.
- Foster collaborative partnerships with Procurement Operations and Quality Assurance teams to ensure smooth scale-up alignment of specifications and on-floor problem solving.
- Identify opportunities and address challenges to improve R&D efficiency effectiveness and output.
- Research evaluate and apply new technologies ingredients and processing methods to enhance product quality functionality and cost-effectiveness.
- Stay informed on industry trends scientific developments and regulatory changes within poultry and broader food science sectors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will have supervisory responsibility.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Required
- Bachelors Degree in Food Science Poultry Science or related field
- 8 years of experience in a Research and Development role within the meat/poultry industry
- 5 years of management experience in Research and Development
- In-depth knowledge of plant floor equipment and poultry processing for foodservice deli and retail accounts.
- Strong working knowledge of Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) procedures and processes.
- Strong working knowledge of food sensory technologies related to poultry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively.
- Preferred
- Masters Degree in Food Science Poultry Science or related field.
- Certified Culinary Scientist (CCS) or Certified Research Chef (CRC)
