JOB SUMMARY:

Staunton City Schoolsis seeking applications for a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistantposition at Dixon Education Centerfor the 2025-26 School Year.

Hiring Range: $28.69/hour to $37.44/hour DOE/DOQ.

General Description:

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in the delivery of services to individuals with speech language voice fluency and communication disorders. The SLPA works under the supervision of an SLP and assists in implementing treatment plans conducting therapy sessions documenting progress and supporting communication development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing individualized treatment plans developed by a licensed SLP.
  • Provides direct speech and language therapy services to clients/students under supervision.
  • Documents and reports patient progress performance and responses to treatment.
  • Prepares therapy materials and maintains accurate records.
  • Assists in screening and informal assessment procedures as directed.
  • Maintains confidentiality and complies with all relevant laws policies and ethical guidelines.
  • Participates in team meetings training and continuing education as required.
  • Communicates effectively with clients families caregivers and interdisciplinary teams.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to interact with all personalities.
  • A professional understanding of speech/language disorders.
  • A thorough knowledge and ability to administer appropriate speech/language tests and support materials.

Education Training and Experience Requirement:

  • In compliance with the Code of Virginia 54.1-2620 an SLPA must complete a speech-language pathology assistant program or equivalent coursework from an accredited institution of higher education in the following areas: (a) Introductory or overview course in communication disorders (b) Phonetics (c) Speech sound disorders (d) Language development (e) Language disordersf) Anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms.
  • Completed the required clinical field work.
  • Bachelors Degree in Speech/Language Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders preferred but not required.

Physical Attributes/Demands:

Work requires normal physical attributes including the ability to walk stand sit operate office equipment communicate lift move and carry light equipment and supplies
