The Centre for Protein Research (CPR) is part of the Division of Health Sciences Research Infrastructure Centre (RIC). CPR is a service and research facility for biological mass spectrometry proteomics and metabolomics that undertakes a wide variety of research projects using state of the art equipment.
The role/Te mahi
The Technical Specialist is an experienced scientist who provides support to researchers and students wishing to use mass spectrometry analyses. This includes preparing training material formulating protocols and facilitating training for staff and carrying out quality control and routine maintenance of equipment. You will also take responsibility for general laboratory management maintaining stocks of consumables and reagents and ensuring compliance with health and safety and other regulations. Other tasks include:
Coordinating timely preventative maintenance and repairs with the instrument suppliers
Maintaining accurate records of facility and equipment use for billing and planning purposes.
Assisting with the planning and management of the annual budget for the facility.

You will have a postgraduate science qualification (or equivalent) in biochemistry or related area with biochemistry background. Passionate about your field you will have experience training others and managing a laboratory environment. Other skills required include:
Understanding of bio-analytical procedures such as liquid chromatography or mass spectrometry.
Excellent skills in biochemistry laboratory practice and techniques.
Experience facilitating training and preparing training material.
Laboratory management experience.
Excellent people skills enabling you to build solid relationships with key stakeholders.
Competent user of Microsoft suite (Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint).
This is a unique role and experience in the field of biological mass spectrometry proteomics and/or metabolomics is advantageous.

The appointment range for this role is $75631 to $80503 Top of Range $88750
