THE SHORT OF IT

Were looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team and help accelerate our velocity as we work to build the most exciting performant and versatile self-serve ticketing platform in the business.

As a Senior Software Engineer youll work with a collaborative engineering team in a supportive people-centric culture with a close-knit engineering lead team that works together to design plan architect and build our exciting future.

Youll apply technical skills and work collaboratively with a team of other talented developers Product Managers and Designers to craft high-quality functionality and features.

Youll work proactively with a high degree of autonomy to achieve team objectives inline with our long-term technical vision and business strategy. Often working without detailed oversight youll build trust within your team and the wider business by approaching problems with both pragmatism and ingenuity.

Youll work with exciting technologies like NextJS TypeScript Kafka and Go as we modernize our tech stacks to support an ambitious vision for the business. Youll collaborate on challenging scaling problems and apply pragmatism and ingenuity to find innovative and unique solutions.

Universe is a leader in online ticketing for events from intimate music venues to massive immersive experiences. Were growing rapidly as we support innovative concepts for experiences with renowned artists and attractions like Disney BBC Earth and BTS. Our highly scalable ticketing platform solves complex technical product and design challenges while operating in over 15 countries. We power virtual concerts for Dua Lipa distributed drive-in events for Garth Brooks electronic music festivals across North America long-running immersive experiences like Disney Interactive and stadium-filling sporting events.

Acquired by Ticketmaster in 2015 our growth has accelerated while maintaining our independence. With a global engineering team over 40 strong Universe operates with our own roadmap and modern tech stack (including NextJS TypeScript Node Kafka Kubernetes and Go) backed by the resources of a Fortune 500 company. THE JOB

As a Senior Software Engineer at Universe youll apply your technical passion to build the most powerful and versatile ticketing platform in the this deeply technical role youll contribute to crafting reliable scalable solutions for complex challenges as we modernize our tech stack from Rails to and . Youll deliver exceptional code while growing as a technical contributor through code reviews pairing sessions and collaborative knowledge exchange.

Our clients including world-famous artists and sought-after events depend on Universe to provide a stable high-performance platform that handles unpredictable demand and large traffic volumes. Youll architect solutions and write code in exciting technologies like NextJS TypeScript Kafka and Go shipping frequently through continuous deployment. Most new hires deploy code within their first two weeks some within their first two days! Working with talented developers designers and product managers youll apply your entrepreneurial mindset and deep technical expertise to ensure were building the right software in the best way possibleiteratively quickly and at global scale.

TECH STACK

Youll work with our cutting-edge stack including TypeScript JavaScript Go and Ruby using powerful tools like NextJS Node Kafka Postgres GRPC MongoDB GraphQL and Kubernetes. Our observability tooling provides exceptional insights empowering you to make data-driven engineering decisions while solving fascinating scaling challenges.

Youll help us build a reliable platform that scales effortlessly to meet spiky unpredictable demand while delivering lightning-fast experiences to customers worldwide. As part of our modernization journey from Rails to and beyond youll apply innovative thinking to create elegant solutions that work globally.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Designing and architecting detailed protobufs to empower efficient development of new services and tools through contract-driven development.

• Driving quality and performance across the organization including leading best practice adoption through your advocacy for observability load testing and metric collection.

• Helping to pragmatically maintain our legacy and core systems while keeping an eye towards the future.

• Maintaining a positive productive and healthy environment on your team.

• Working closely with Product Managers and Designers to find the best solutions.

• Pair-programming with talented developers.

• Providing mentorship and support to other developers.

• Participate in self-directed Relentless Improvement days where you get to work by yourself or with others to improve something be it your own skills/training fixing a pesky bug or coming up with a new interesting feature.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (or TECHNICAL SKILLS)

• 5 years of experience working with productive software engineering teams and writing high-quality software.

• Experience with full-stack programming across multiple languages and modern tech stacks.

• Strong communication skills for effective asynchronous collaboration.

• An independent entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work autonomously and approach problems with both pragmatism and creativity.

• Apply empathy and passion to feedback pairing and code reviews while maintaining our high technical bar.

• Contributing to architectural decisions in a distributed environment.

• Comfort with rapid iteration and continuous deployment in a global scalable platform.

• Experience with any of the following technologies is a bonus: TypeScript NextJS Node Go Rust Kafka Grafana GraphQL MongoDB Elixir Postgres.

• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD tools such as Docker Kubernetes GitHub Actions or Argo CD.
