About the Role

  • You will be based in our Child Development Service/Ratoka Whakapuwai Tamaiti at Southland Hospital and you will be involved in:
  • working alongside tamariki and their whnau in collaboration with the other members of the Child Development team to provide culturally appropriate support to implement person centred interprofessional plans of care and to ensure that services meet their needs
  • increase and strengthen the resilience of Mori in their identity and knowledge of Tikanga Mori and to work to ensure the provision of culturally appropriate care
  • meet the ongoing and changing identified needs of tamariki in partnership with their whnau and carers in a timely manner considering their unique cultural and social environment
  • support Allied Health professionals and other staff in the provision of care for outpatient and community based tamariki and whnau of Southern District Health Board
  • facilitate and assist with the promotion and co-ordination of cultural development and training for Child Development Staff
  • promote Tikanga and cultural safety of staff
  • Work in an interdisciplinary clinical team liaising appropriately with relevant health care professionals and others involved with the child/whnau including external agencies.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Child Development team is a close knit and supportive team with a mix of skills knowledge and experience. We are committed to innovative practice and strive to provide an equitable and evidence-based service for children and their whnau.

About you

This is a role for someone with energy and enthusiasm to assist with engaging and supporting Mori patients/whnau referred to the Child Development Service in a culturally appropriate way.

To be successful in this position you will also need to demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of referral pathways; an ability to advocate and educate; and the ability to communicate widely and effectively are attributes that are required for this position.
  • Qualifications in Mori studies or equivalent experience with Kaupapa Mori Systems.
  • Knowledge of Tikanga Mori with proficiency/learning in Te Reo Mori and the Mori world view whakapapa whnau hap iwi is recommended
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate and build relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • Be a great team player with the confidence to work effectively within an inter-disciplinary team
  • Hold a current clean and full New Zealand Drivers Licence
  • Previous experience working with tamariki and families is preferred but not essential.
  • Must be eligible to work in New Zealand or have a work visa/permit
