Role Profile for the Project Management Discipline
The Project Management discipline spans Functional Roles that provide principles methods tools and techniques for effectively managing work as defined in a Statement of Work or Project Definition. Individuals in this discipline are required to estimate a work effort develop project plans monitor progress against a plan adjust resources and deliver a quality product. They balance client expectations against RSMs contractual delivery obligations and manage resulting budget scope and schedule issues. As a Team Leader progresses through the ranks to a Senior Program Manager the projects along the way become more complex and therefore more challenging to manage. They may have a larger budget a longer duration or a higher degree of risk due to technical implications or the contract features requested by the client.
Senior Project Manager
As a Senior Project Manager you are responsible for planning tasks assigning resources to the tasks and monitoring and tracking progress against your plan. The projects you manage are typically larger ($2M to $5M) in size and complexity consisting of up to up to 40 resources (PM07). You may be responsible for multiple teams each managed by a team or project this situation you are also expected to mentor and guide your team and project leaders as they prepare their plans and resolve project issues. Senior Project Managers report to the to the program manager (if part of an integrated program) or the client sponsor and RSM engagement leader if managing a standalone project.
In this role you are expected to keep both the client and RSM engagement leadership informed of the progress of the effort. Your objective is to deliver the project within the specified budget scope and schedule. Senior Project Managers are also responsible for helping business organizations toward achieving the intended business results.
Competencies for a Senior Project Manager will vary in mix and balance based on the opportunities presented by each project assignment. We expect that some of the competency examples listed below will be carried out independently while others will require guidance and review by RSM Engagement Leadership.
