Join our dynamic Transaction Approval & Advice team where youll combine sharp analytical skills with strategic thinking to manage complex credit transactions for leading Mid Corporate clients.
The Department
The Transaction Approval & Advice (TA&A) department is responsible for the analysis advice and decision making of tailored lending transactions for our key Dutch Mid Corporate (Midcorp) clients whilst safeguarding the risk appetite of the bank. The risk managers have a deep understanding of credit structuring credit risk and businesses & markets next to the assessment of related risks like ESG compliance and climate addition to the transaction-by-transaction approval process the risk officers manage their portfolios and advice senior management on the strategic direction in terms of risk appetite and portfolio steering in sectors and products.
Our department employs 50 risk managers divided over three teams:
Portfolio (lending assets EUR 5m)
Sector & Asset Based Finance (> EUR 5m)
Specialized Lending (Sustainable Finance Structured Debt & Equity)
The vacant position is in the Sector & Asset Based Finance team.
The Team Sector & Asset Based Finance (Sector & ABF)
The Sector & ABF team consists of 20 risk managers divided among three clusters:
Cluster 1: Trade Retail Automotive Transport & Logistics
Cluster 2: Industry Construction Public & Healthcare
Cluster 3: Food Agriculture Leisure & Services
A risk manager in a cluster has either a sector focus or an asset based finance focus. Asset based finance contains leasing and commercial finance propositions. The risk managers with a sector focus are led by a sector principal (one for each cluster). The risk managers with a ABF focus are led by the ABF principal (one covering all clusters).
We are a dynamic team cooperate with Front Office / Sales focused on taking responsible credit risks and working closely together stepping in for each other where needed. The timelines of requests are usually demanding hence flexibility and a pro-active attitude is important. If suitable increased responsibilities will be granted to make sure the personal learning curve fits your profile. The primary language in our team and with our stakeholders is Dutch so fluency in this language is essential.
Your position
As principal of the Asset Based Finance team (5 FTE) you are the primary contact for ING Lease and ING Commercial Finance sales team with regard to 1st & 2nd line collaboration overall portfolio performance & monitoring and product addition together with team lead Sector & ABF you jointly lead the goal-setting process coaching and the performance evaluation of your team.
Next to your principal role you and your team are responsible for advising and managing client transactions from originating to closing. Each risk manager monitors her/his own client portfolio and safeguards the credit risk appetite of the bank in balance with a sound commercial sense. Your position will be based in Amsterdam and you will report to the lead Sector & ABF.
Role and Responsibilities:
Recommending and deciding on credit applications for new transactions modifications and reviews
Closely monitoring the commercial finance and lease portfolio and proposing corrective actions and improvements to TA&A management
Further enhancing the portfolio monitoring if and where desirable
Establishing of and/or advising on risk appetite for the relevant portfolios or products
Training and coaching of team members
Working closely with front office peers and relevant support departments
Developing and maintaining relationships with (senior) management and other relevant internal and/or external stakeholders
Ensuring the quality policy compliance and consistency of the credit application and that transactions meet the conditions of approval as set out in the credit process
Provide support when needed to other teams within Sector & ABF
Participating in projects and actively providing input/developing relevant risk policies and reports

At least eight years of experience in a lending environment excellent credit analysis skills and a good understanding of legal documentation (e.g. LMA FAAN). Proven lending experience with ABF is preferred
Willingness to invest in specialized product knowledge and ability to link this expertise with current sector trends
Team player social enjoying collaboration across the bank and committed to help others
Authentic and assertive personality self-starter hands on with ability and eagerness to learn and high integrity standards
An independent thinker not afraid to provide a different point of view and open to the exchange of ideas. Brings experience and constructive persuasion.
Affinity with data data analysis and automated credit decision making automation
Good communication skills (verbal and in writing) and fluent in Dutch and English
Preferably an academic background (Msc) in e.g. Finance Business or Economics.
