Position Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides medical diagnostic and treatment services for an adult consumer population served at the Crisis Receiving Center. This includes those clients needing medical clearance for hospital placement Residential Crisis and Detox clients and those receiving 23-hour services. Work is guided by policies and procedures quality assurance public and private payor guidelines diagnostic guidelines and professional practices and including ethical standards related to client interactions state and federal licensure and accreditation regulations and guidelines.
Required Education and Experience
Related Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles standards practices and techniques related to Psychiatry and nursing; Thorough knowledge of the characteristics and precautions to be taken in the administration of psychotropic medication; Thorough knowledge of the principles practices and techniques related to individual therapy counseling practices and risk assessment for the mentally ill; Thorough knowledge of individual management guidelines for Virginia; thorough knowledge of the laws and legal procedures relating to hospital admission; Thorough knowledge of community resources hospitalization options treatment providers and other agencies in service to the mentally ill population; Ability to prepare and maintain patient medical records and prepare reports in compliance with licensure regulations; Ability to conduct effective interviews observe assess and record individual behaviors and functioning and develop treatment and service plans;
Ability to drive and must possess a valid drivers license. May be called upon to travel to any Horizon worksite; transport clients provide services to clients at other locations. Regular attendance at trainings and Horizon meetings may require travel to a variety of Horizon sites; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed.
