Location: Shreveport LA
This Rehabilitation Counselor-Entry/Counselor position that is responsible for performing casework in a caseload utilizing skills and techniques which enable a person with a disability to successfully interface with his/her total environment in the community and obtain maintain and advance in employment. Travel may be required for this position and must be performed as needed.
The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of the Louisiana Workforce Commission managing programs in workforce training job placement apprenticeships and business engagement. Through collaboration with local boards educational institutions and industry partners OWD aims to improve economic mobility for job seekers and ensure Louisiana employers have the skilled talent they need contributing to the states economic growth.

A bachelors degree plus one year of experience in rehabilitation services social services administrative services therapy services or nursing; OR
A bachelors degree in a rehabilitation field a social sciences field social work education nursing health and human services speech therapy or business administration; OR
A masters degree.

Job Duties:
Schedules interviews to assess the functional limitations and vocational potential of possible rehabilitation consumers.
Determines eligibility for rehabilitation services after reviewing comprehensive medical and psychosocial evaluations.
Coordinates consumers plan of rehabilitation to include agreements providing vocational guidance and counseling training programs and other needed services utilizing available resources to achieve maximum rehabilitation.
Maintains knowledge of accommodations/technology to remove or eliminate barriers to employment.
Interacts with the consumer to assess his/her needs and problems to determine the best solution vocationally and socially and assists the consumer with improving interpersonal skills understanding the labor market and achieving successful employment.
Provides counseling to consumers family members and significant others in relation to the vocational plan services provided and the expected outcome.
Maintains adequate caseload flow and organization.
Schedules supervisory meetings with the consumer returns phone calls processes mail and is responsible for the appropriate expenditure of public funds.
Maintains an extensive network of employer contacts and labor market information to assist consumers in achieving employment.
