Position Description

Position Overview:

The Litigation Coordinator serves as a vital liaison between the County Attorneys Office and the Office of the County Engineer (OCE) providing legal and administrative support to ensure effective handling of litigation matters. This role is responsible for coordinating case files facilitating communication and assisting with discovery court processes and document management. By bridging both offices the Litigation Coordinator ensures timely accurate and efficient case management in compliance with county policies court procedures and applicable laws.

Job Duties:

  • Coordinate and manage litigation case files ensuring compliance with deadlines court requirements and internal procedures.
  • Draft review and prepare legal documents including pleadings motions discovery requests/responses and correspondence.
  • Maintain case calendars scheduling depositions hearings mediations and trials.
  • Organize and manage physical and electronic case documents ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare summaries case outlines and support documentation for attorney review.
  • Assist in trial preparation by compiling exhibits witness lists and trial binders.
  • Communicate effectively with attorneys clients witnesses and court personnel to support case progress.
  • Track litigation deadlines using case management systems and proactively monitor case status.
  • Manage responses to subpoenas discovery requests and document production.
  • Support attorneys during depositions hearings and trials as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Legal Studies Criminal Justice Public Administration or related field; advanced legal training or certification a plus.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience supporting attorneys in a litigation-focused environment.

Knowledge and skills

  • Strong knowledge of litigation processes state and federal court procedures and filing protocols.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools (e.g. LexisNexis Westlaw) and case/document management software.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under strict deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail accuracy and confidentiality.

Preferences

Education:

  • Masters degree in Legal Studies Criminal Justice Public Administration or related field; advanced legal training or certification a plus.

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience supporting attorneys in a litigation-focused environment.

Knowledge and skills

  • Experience with e-discovery and litigation support platforms.
  • Familiarity with rules of evidence and trial preparation.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced high-volume legal environment.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time Regular 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings late evenings weekends and holidays at times depending upon the project or workload.

Salary: Commensurate with experience based on 26 pay periods.

Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:

  • Most assignments will be performed in an office meeting or operations command center environment but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
  • This position requires bending stooping and lifting to 25 lbs. frequent walking standing sitting reaching and ascending/descending stairs.
