Job Description

Type of Appointment: Full Time Probationary

Job Classification:Instructional Support Tech III

Anticipated Hiring Range:$5053-$5588 per month

Work Schedule:Monday 8:00 am - Friday 5:00 pm


THE DEPARTMENT:

The Animal & Veterinary Sciences Department is an academic unit in the College of Agriculture responsible for providing instruction to students majoring in Animal Science and Animal Health Science or in specific classes dealing with animal production and management. The Animal Science Program prepares students for veterinary school or a career in livestock industries. The Animal Health Science program prepares students to become RVTs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructional support for the following areas- anatomy biotechnology endocrinology- reproductive physiology and nutrition. Cost-effectively acquire and safely store all needed items for learning and research such as chemicals and biological materials and instruments.
  • Safety- Identify and promptly complete any task related to safety. Resolve any safety concerns complete and submit reports on safety issues. Serve on the Colleges Safety Committee. Maintain safety training documentation and coordinate with AVS Department Chair Livestock unit Leads Director of Farm Operations and Associate Dean regarding safety issues. Work closely with the Director of Farm Operations and crew on safety issues and shared farming equipment.
  • In consultation with AVS faculty develops evaluates teaching and research IACUC animal protocols for the committees review. Works closely with the campus IACUC chair department chair faculty Director of Farm Operations and Associate Dean to maintain IACUC and USDA compliance. Assists the livestock units to prepare for the IACUC and USDA inspections.
  • Monitor student workers assisting in laboratories and educational activities in the AVS department. Lead 3-7 student assistants including creating and maintaining a safe work area and tracking student hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to four years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned OREquivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience OREquivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods related to performing support services; knowledge of the principles information methods and techniques related to discipline to which assigned; knowledge of the materials and supplies related to the curriculum their characteristics and uses. Ability to plan organize and schedule work; ability to operate and repair technical and scientific equipment; ability to coordinate support service to meet a comprehensive variety of needs; ability to develop off-campus resources related to the discipline for obtaining materials or equipment.
  • Driver License Valid and in State Valid CA Drivers license with insurance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of procedures and techniques applicable to courses in animal science. Ability to operate technical equipment related to different animal science courses. Ability to plan activities and prepare schedules. Ability to use methods techniques and skills related to the discipline in preparing specialized materials.
  • Knowledge of livestock USDA policies Knowledge of federal regulations at institutions that conduct research teaching or testing involving live vertebrate animals Knowledge of common safety procedures for handling and storage of chemicals and biological materials used in laboratory preparations along with handling hazardous chemical and biological waste. Ability to learn interpret independently and apply a variety of policies and procedures.
  • Able to identify deviations from applicable policies. Demonstrated competence in understanding interpreting and communicating procedures policies information ideas and instructions. Ability to apply independent judgment discretion and initiative to address simple to moderately complex problems and develop practical thorough and at times creative solutions.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism. Ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Basic competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing spreadsheets databases on-line systems Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.

CSU Classification Salary Range

This position is part of the CSUEU bargaining unit 9. The CSU Classification Standards for this position are located on theCSU Classification Standards website. The CSU Salary Schedule is located on theCSU Salary Schedule website. The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $5053 and maximum $8765 per month. University Driving Requirement

Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1. Have a valid California or other State Drivers license. 2. Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof) 3. Not have more than 3 DMV Points if their license is Class C or 4. Not have more than 5 DMV Points if their license is Class A B or C with endorsements. For more information go to the
