The Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) provides training for employees across the Department of Adult Correction. OSDT has a staff of 91 instructors and support personnel who deliver basic training to Correction and Probation Officers. The office also leads firearms training leadership education programs general instructor training and other specialized classes as well as managing the delivery of annual in-service training for more than 16000 certified employees.
This Staff Development Specialist position is in the Curriculum section at OSDT and will report directly to the OSDT Curriculum Manager. The primary purpose of the Staff Development Specialist I is to perform a variety of services to meet the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction OSDT and program training needs. Work involves preparation of teaching plans training materials and identifying objectives. The employee may also coordinate schedule and evaluate training events under supervision of other instructors.
This position will work closely with Community Supervision and Institution staff and instructors to manage information and materials required to develop learning content for the PPO Basic Training and/or Correctional Officer Basic Training curriculums. This position will also manage information and materials required to develop content for Community Supervision and Institution Mandatory In-Service Training Curriculums along with additional training programs. This position must ensure lesson plans are policy driven updated annually meet ISD requirements and are consistent with the Criminal Justice Standards Commissions guidelines for accredited training.
This position will work closely with OSDT Operation Managers in the revision of lesson plans and will also attend Review and Revision Committee meetings as a representative of the Curriculum Section.
This position will also be responsible for administering and monitoring state certified examinations as well as managing student data and test materials. This position will also provide support to other sections within OSDT and must be able to participate in training delivery as either the lead or as an assisting instructor (if applicable).

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in a progressive training or teaching role or one year of experience in a human service counseling or training program in the subject matter specified;
