Job Summary
The faculty member will provide instruction in vocational nursing theory and clinical skills across classroom lab and clinical settings with a focus on achieving strong student and program outcomes. This role also includes active participation in community engagement official college events and public relations efforts that support and promote the mission and values of Midland College.
Essential Functions
Teaching and Instruction Teach courses and labs with a lecture equivalent hour ( LEH ) load aligned with program requirements; overloads compensated per college policy Communicate clear learning objectives and expectations to students Develop and administer assessments that effectively measure student learning outcomes Maintain a well-managed learning environment across all instructional settings Oversee student orientation clinical assignments and learning opportunities for the main and satellite campuses including using interactive video conferencing technology Identify at-risk students and implement early interventions to support success Continuously improve instructional quality through evaluation and innovation in teaching methods Recommend appropriate textbooks and instructional materials including open educational resources Maintain accessibility to students via posted office hours Canvas and electronic communication Curriculum and Program Development Develop implement and evaluate nursing curriculum Participate in creating implementing and enforcing program standards and policies Maintain familiarity with Texas Board of Nursing requirements and uphold applicable standards Stay current with trends in nursing practice and education Student Support and Clinical Supervision Provide academic advising guidance and support to students Supervise students in clinical settings Assist in the orientation of new full-time and part-time faculty and clinical preceptors Administrative and Institutional Duties Fulfill faculty responsibilities in accordance with Midland College policies and the Employee and Faculty Handbook Maintain accurate academic and program records; submit required documentation on time Serve on departmental divisional and college-wide committees as needed Participate in student recruitment academic advising and official college events (e.g. graduation pinning ceremonies) Professional Development and Service Engage in ongoing professional development related to nursing and education Contribute to college and community initiatives through service and outreach Establish and maintain positive relationships with community and healthcare partners Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Ability to remain seated or stationary for extended periods (up to 50% of the time) Occasional movement across campus and to off-site or out of town locations including driving Frequent use of a keyboard and manual dexterity for computer work Clear and effective verbal communication for exchanging accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Ability to lift and move up to 20 pounds regularly Work occurs in the office classroom clinical and occasional outdoor settings Must be able to walk and stand for supervision in clinical environments Availability to work extended hours and attend college or community events
Required Qualifications
Current or eligible for an unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas Associate degree in nursing or a diploma from an accredited hospital-based nursing program Minimum of three years of recent nursing experience or advanced preparation in nursing practice nursing education or nursing administration Demonstrated variety of post-graduate nursing experience and current knowledge of clinical practices and safety standards relevant to the instructional area Familiarity with nursing-related equipment and simulation tools Proficiency in English with strong written and verbal communication skills Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications Valid Texas drivers license with a satisfactory driving record that meets Midland Colleges insurance requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors degree or higher in nursing Experience teaching nursing courses at the community college or university level Experience working with or precepting nursing students in clinical settings Familiarity with learning management systems ( LMS ) such as Canvas
