Academy of Art University is hiring for a full-time Equipment Technician for the School of Photography Lab (Fall and Spring semester). Our Photo Technicians assist BFA / MFA students and professional photography Instructors with checking out industry standard photographic equipment studios and traditional and digital darkrooms. The position is a resource to students in need of technical information concerning the use of the equipment and facilities. The facility is maintained similarly to a professional rental house and performs thorough inspection of all equipment when checked out and returned to the facility. Accurate and detailed documentation is key to the position.
Responsibilities:
Assist Instructors with Class Needs
provides training to students on the proper inspection and handling of the equipment being checked out.
Assist students in checking out and returning tools ensuring proper handling and maintenance logging all items checked out in our online checkout center.
Help maintain an organized and safe tool room environment.
Safely operate large-format inkjet printers: operation cleaning maintenance.
Work with of different fine-art paper manufacturers and have an understanding of what goes into choosing a paper for certain subjects.
Skilled in finishing: matting and framing artwork for final presentation at exhibition.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
Understanding of good color-management workflow: monitor calibration camera profiling custom ICC paper profiling.
Possess at least one year of work experience in the photography field
Photography degree is highly desired.
Previous customer service experience
Knowledge of rental equipment procedures
Experience in traditional B&W process and printing
Experience in inventory control and documentation
Experience with color management in a digital lab environment
Working experience with Adobe Photoshop CS Lightroom Mac OSX and Windows PC
Must be able to lift approximately 25lbs
