Job Description

Blue Mountain Animal Clinic in Sequim WA is looking for one veterinary pharmacy technician to join our 36 person strong team. We are located on 51 Dryke Rd. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter punctual and engaged.

Job Summary: The Veterinary Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians and ensuring high-quality care for animal patients by managing the pharmacy operations within the clinic. This position involves preparing and dispensing medications maintaining inventory educating clients and assisting with clinical and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented has a strong understanding of veterinary medications and is passionate about animal welfare. Knowledge of veterinary medicine and pharmaceuticals is highly desired.

Key Responsibilities:

Medication Preparation and Dispensing: Accurately prepare and dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications (e.g. tablets capsules liquids injections) as prescribed by veterinarians ensuring correct dosages and precise mathematical calculations for accurate medication dosages including compounding medications (e.g. flavoring for animal compliance). Fill and distribute in-hospital prescriptions and coordinate client pickups for refills and complete prescriptions requests through all collaborative online platforms.

Client Communication and Education: Educate pet owners on medication purposes administration instructions potential side effects and preventive care client concerns about medications and discuss alternatives to ensure animal compliance (e.g. flavoring options).

Support to Veterinary Team:Assist veterinarians by researching drug information providing cost details and managing pharmacy-related administrative medications to veterinarians for inpatients particularly in hospital settings and assist with medication administration as needed.

Administrative and Clinic Support: Enter patient information into the clinics Practice Management System (AVImark) and process with front desk duties such as scheduling an exam answering phone calls and collecting payments when needed.

Compliance and Safety: Adhere to state regulations for controlled substances and pharmacy operations ensuring proper documentation and handling. Maintain a clean organized and efficient pharmacy workspace to support clinic operations.

Education and Experience:

Preferred: Completion of a pharmacy technician program or coursework in biomedical sciences/health-related fields but not required.

Preferred: 1 year of pharmacy technician experience and/or veterinary as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent is preferred but not required.

Skills and Attributes: - Strong knowledge of veterinary medications including forms dosages and potential drug interactions. Excellent attention to detail and ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations for communication and customer service skills for interacting with pet owners and veterinary staff. Ability to multitask work independently and collaborate as part of a team. Comfort and enthusiasm for working with animals and observing veterinary procedures.

Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand for long periods crouch reach and lift up to 3040 pounds. Comfort handling animals and working in potentially fast-paced or emergency settings.

Licensure: Medical Clerks license must be in good standing with the Department of Health Washington State and willing to undergo a background check.

Continuing education in veterinary pharmacy (e.g. through the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists) is encouraged.
