Description:

Position Purpose

This individual is responsible to plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs for individuals who exhibit speech/language/swallowing problems.

What you will Do

  • Plans directs evaluates and conducts habilitative and rehabilitative programs to treat speech language and/or swallowing disorders.

  • Prepares written reports of diagnostic findings intervention techniques used progress made and follow-up status in a timeframe according to policy and procedure.

  • Develops treatment plans directs supervises and treats patients/caregiver in accordance with treatment plan.

  • Consults and communicates with patient family providers and nursing staff. Assist multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and establishes home therapy programs.

  • Completes required documentation on patients and maintains other department records in accordance with departmental health center policies and procedures.

  • Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Masters degree in the area of Speech/Language Pathology

  • Must have demonstrated competence in an acute and outpatient patient care setting for at least one year.

  • Current licensure from the Iowa Department of Public Health

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is desirable.

  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider-American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

  • Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines.
