Coventry Public Schools is seeking to hire a 7 hr/day Paraprofessional positions - 5 positions. COVENTRY PUBLIC SCHOOLSJOB SPECIFICATIONS/PARAPROFESSIONALITITLE: PARAPROFESSIONAL - School based and Interview ParaprofessionalIIREPORTS TO: BUILDING PRINCIPALIIIPRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Under general supervision the Paraprofessional Educator performs tasks which are in support of the teaching-learning process. This classification is characterized by the performance of duties involved in the implementation of teacher plans and instructional programs. The Paraprofessional Educator may be assigned to assist one or more teachers initial instructions. Work is performed under the direction and leadership of the classroom teacher and/or the REQUIREMENTS:Minimum Qualification For Paraprofessionals as Required by State and Federal LawBe of good characterHigh school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)Successful completion of Paraprofessional Program approved by the RI Department of Education. Exceptions: (1) Provide certification as a Paraprofessional in another state (2) hold an associates degree or bachelors degree and have completed coursework or other training consistent with our State Standards as approved by the Qualifications Certification of ability to perform essential functions by licensed practicing physician if applicable to be necessary to obtain Chauffeur endorsement to licenseDemonstrate an understanding of school policies and to maintain confidentiality especially regarding student FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:Must be able to intermittently walk sit stand and stoopMust be able to occasionally lift up to 15 be able to physically move freely around a classroomMust be proficient in basic computer skillsMust be able to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken wordMust be able to understand and follow oral and written directionsMust be able to work effectively in a team environmentMust be able to follow safety instructionsVIRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Confers regularly with teacher(s) or administrators to discuss plans and receives professional guidance to confidently perform job arrival and dismissal of students guiding them to the correct data point sheets and records students behavior and performance as and/or assist students at lunch and recess as students personal and sanitary needs including toilet training students with audiovisual equipment assistive technology devices and communication with discipline procedures. Follows student behavior plan. Reinforce monitor and assist the teachers lesson plan to the students to itinerant and elective classes assemblies and other school activities during the school learning exercises with small groups of students as directed by the students in developing positive relationships with peers and as a role model for students in demonstrating a positive attitude good moral character and a cooperative staff relationship with all personnel functioning within the educational special strategies provided by support staff and special educators for reinforcing behavior or academic skills based on an understanding of individual students their needs interests and as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher in supervision of simple games crafts recreational and physical teacher in basic habit training and instructional functions in a special education setting. Works with students educators and other professional personnel in carrying out the various special education programs at early childhood elementary and secondary levels; and performs other duties as assigned per the parameters of this job duties as assignedVIITERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:Ten (10) month position with salary benefits and hours of work to be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must hold a Teacher Assistant Certification and have passed a praxis exam OR have a teacher Assistant certification and Associates OR at least an Associates degree in education. This is a union contracted 180 day position with compensation according to contract.
